I think I will do the clutch since I am all the way to removing the torque tube to get the tranny mounts in. I have the cats out as well.

So what should I replace? Plate, disc and flywheel resurface obviously.

What about the slave/bearing and the other shaft bearings?

Someone suggested the three torque tube bearings but they are very expensive. Has anyone tried to press the bearing out of the housing and out new sks in?

Anything else I should be thinking about?

Ken, there are some aftermarket clutch options out there, but don't be seduced. For best all around driveability stay with the OEM, full surface organic disc setup.

The Hill release bearing is a better product than the OEM.

For sure, replace the pilot shaft bearing "while you're in there"

Brian Crall used to recommend replacing the torque tube bearings as well. I think if you do a search on their Ferrari P/N in our interchangeable parts thread, you might be able to get the SKF or generic P/N's and source them a little cheaper.

Thanks. I have the skf # but not sure about pressing the old ones out and the new ones in. Anybody done that?

Ken, there's also the option of relining your clutch with Kevlar. John @ HCFParts does this over in Austin, and his email is hcfparts AT gmail DOT com. Website is https://hcfautoparts.com/

What’s the benefit of Kevlar? I like a smooth clutch.

I can't speak from personal experience as I've not driven a Kevlar clutch, but it's "supposed" to have stock type engagement, but far better wear characteristics.

I have a triple disc metallic clutch from OS Giken in my 550 and it was nearly impossible to drive on the street. I'll be trying the Kevlar as/when it's time.

Stu- If it were me, I would change out the thrust/throw-out bearing, too. Although the 3 pedal bearings last longer than those on F1 575s, while you are in there...

FWIW, I have a Kevlar clutch on my 308 - super smooth and easy to modulate. You’d never know it wasn’t an OEM part.

    Ken,

Torque tube bearings are doable. SPUK has them cheaper than anyone else.

Do ALL clutch components. You don't want to be back in there if not necessary. As to the flywheel, a resurface is ok, on the F1 cars like 575 that's a no no as they are beveled and when they get resurfaced, they usually are done flat.

Can't comment on Kevlar clutch but if enough here say it's decent, I'd say give it a whirl. May as well be the 456 6MT beta experiment ;)

Aaron- There is no difference between an F1 and 3 pedal flywheel. The same flywheel was used on the 456 GT through the 612, whether 3 pedal or F1.

Whoops thanks Terry, indeed you are correct. Had my mind going on Maserati when I responded. The Spyder Cambiocorsa and Spyder manual use different flywheels.

If I was doing it, I'd do the throwout and clutch bearings myself and then I'd take the drive shaft to a shop for the bearing press stuff. This is getting to be a big job overall. Are the shocks back from Delta Vee yet?
