91 348 with 19K miles. I've put on about 1000 miles since purchase last year. Was out for a about an hour drive last week and sitting at a light in neutral. Upon pushing the clutch I had about half travel with no resistance, one pump and had full pedal. The last 20 minutes of the drive I noticed occasionally I would have about and inch or sometimes 2 and sometime no play in the pedal before any pressure. Resting my foot on the pedal and it does not slowly go down and the reservoir is full.
Feels like the master piston is not fully returning sometimes. There is no fluid leaking from the master up under the dash and none under the slave.
And if it is the master, replace or rebuild? I see they are not too expensive. I have a trip at the end of the month to a car show in Detroit about 4 hrs away and don't feel like getting stranded.

belt service fall of 2015. It had the original tires on it! IO don't believe it has had any other work. The fluid in the reservoir is clear but that doesn't say much.

I too was also having trouble with my clutch recently. The pedal would sometimes be slow to return to the up position, but mainly I was getting a really inconsistent engagement point. In my case, I removed the master cylinder and found the seal to be bad, it would wiggle on the piston shaft.

But my point for writing is to say that the master cylinder replacement isn't that difficult. Once you get the wiper motor out of the way, access is pretty good. So the ease of access combined with the relatively low price of the part led me to replace the master cylinder even though I wasn't sure that was the problem until I got it off. Normally I don't just replace parts without knowing they're bad, but I made an exception in this case because I knew the master was at least 14 years old.

When the slave goes kaput, it seems to be an all-or-nothing proposition. Like foot to the floor kinda thing, or a big puddle under the pumpkin.

There are many rebuilders for the master cylinder, but I think some have gone out of favor with the Fchat crowd, so I'll let others make the recommendations.
