I have a strange problem with the clutch on my GT4. the clutch operated just fine previously. I took it out to change a leaky crank seal. while I was there, I resurfaced the flywheel, put a new clutch disc, pressure plate, and TO bearing, buttoned it all up, adjusted the clutch cable to basically were it was before, started the car and drove away. Everything seemed to be just fine. Drove the car a few days later a couple of miles and still seemed fine. I parked the car then a few days later, a buddy of mine wanted to hear the motor so I got in, started it and revved the motor a bit in neutral for about 10-15 seconds and shut it off. Now is when the story changes. A few days later I start the car, push the clutch in and try to put it in gear. it would not go it gear, I tried reverse and it would not go in as it would crunch as i tried to push it in. Hmmm, never had this happen. I turn it off, put it in gear, which it will go in all gears when the car is off, then start the car and it surged forward even with the clutch pedal depressed as far as it would go. The clutch is not releasing. So I fiddle with the adjustment rod at the through-out lever and still no good. Could it be the clutch cable is stretched out? the new pressurre plate is stiffer so maybe the cable was on its last strand?

DId the clutch disc get wet - rain/washing, drive through a puddle, whatever? That symptom is typically of a disc that has seized to the flywheel, which they will do when wet. Obviously, if the linkage has failed, that would cause the same thing but damp clutch discs do this routinely.

They can do this in damp weather sometimes but in that case they will usually easily break loose if you apply the brakes, depress the clutch, and try to star the car. Make SURE the brakes are firmly applied. I always a start a manual car that way - clutch in/brakes on firmly. It's a habit - I never start a manual tranny car without depressing the clutch pedal/applying the brakes. I was taught that when learning to drive…MANY years ago. :)

I have seen them seize so firmly that disassembly was required to break them loose. ;)

Never put a manual tranny car in the garage that has just been washed/driven in the rain/trough a puddle without "slipping the clutch" quite a bit to heat/dry it out.

If the cable has stretched/broken, it should be easily felt when you depress the pedal. Does the pedal "feel" different than it did before the problem started?

If it feels the same, then I would guess that it is releasing the Pressure plate but the disc is, in fact, seized to the flywheel.

I suppose it is possible that if you have a stiffer PP now and the linkage was adjusted to just barely release the old pressure plate, there might be insufficient movement of the pressure plate to release the clutch - the new clutch disc probably being thicker than the old one as well. But based on the fact that you said you had tried some other adjustments, that doesn't seem likely.

Why did you leave the adj. wher it was? When you install a new disc the linkage must be adj. peace, Lost

There is a possibility that when reassembled the clutch fork was not seated on the throw out bearing. (Some units are missing the retainer spring)Then later it seated which adjusted the linkage by a huge amount.
