For 2007 F430 with 7973 miles with 32% clutch wear...

Is this an unusual amount, should I be concerned, examine driving habits, etc.

    Opinions needed.

Seems real good to me. 8K miles traveled and used 1/3 of the clutch.

Make sure you are counting your wear correctly. When my Ferrari dealership installed a new clutch in my 430 they logged and reported the clutch measurement to me at 99.5%, obviously remaining, not amount worn. I was surprised since I thought people usually talked about the clutch %worn, when Ferrari talks about the %remaining.

So if Ferrari tells you that your clutch is at 30% then its probably 30% remaining / 70% consumed.

I've heard inconsistent info on whether they generally work perfectly down to 0%, start having issues prior to 0%, or last longer than 0%.

One should always specify, % consumed or % remaining to avoid any confusion.

Mark – Clutch-wear mostly happens at take off. Here the clutch has to slip until it fully engages. This is the critical point in the life of a clutch.

If you have to drive off on a steep hill this is really hard for the clutch because slippage is longer and harder due to the higher revs the engine needs to start off. Even worse is when you have to start off on a steep hill in reverse because reverse gear is longer than first giving the clutch an even harder life.

There is no issue when shifting gears at high revs with full throttle because slippage of the clutch is marginal to nonexistent. So it’s all about driving off.

If the PIS (point of initial slippage) is wrong or the clutch position sensor has a problem the clutch will slip more than needed and this will wear out the clutch as well.

The F Dealers I have dealt with report clutch percentage as a percent of WEAR and not
REMANING CLUTCH. My last 3 readings have been 2011-14.45%, 2012-19.65% and 3
weeks ago 22.1%. Each reading was done during an annual service. 1 was done by Boardwalk
Ferrari and 2 were done by Ferrari of Denver.
If it was CLUTCH REMAINING the percentage would be descending and not increasing.
