Spectacular. Amazingly delicate - even comes with a knock-off hammer and wooden axle stand. The safety wiring is amazing. Gas cap screws off. The steering actually works through the steering box and long action arm. This is the best 1/18 steering wheel of any I have ever seen in mass production The louvers are all through and through! Every one! CMC has out done themselves. I have the SWB and 500F2 and my first impression (mind, I am not a Bugatti expert) is that this is even better. Pictures soon
What are the "safety wires" that you mentioned? Are those the wires that seem to loop around the body through eyelets? I have been wondering about what appears to be wires on the car.
Indeed, the safety wires runs through eyelets in all the bodywork screws on the GP Bugattis to avoid that the screws loosen themselves due to vibrations etc. Best Carsten
these photos do not do the model justice - the engine alone is spectacular with engine turned surfaces and detail. WARNING - the hood strap buckles are a PITA to undo Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
CMC does a great job. I have a few pre-war models and the detail, for the price, is really nice. I think you would have to pay a lot more to get a noticeable increase in quality.
Congrats Russ, It is truly a magnificent model! This model is my sole wish for a Christmas gift this year!!! Best Carsten
++. Most people, in fact, would fail to take notice in much of any increase in quality over this. I have to have one. PS - could I just ask why there is a white thread tied to the front frame crossmember in those photos? My curiosity is killing me!
Because all the CMC models come with a little "tag" that is attached to them and most people don't like to remove it.
i'm a bit dissappointed in the cmc bug....as i've had a couple real ones it's easy to pick out stuff..one of many examples is the steering wheel, famously delicate in real life- is waay too clunky and oversized....if you want a model that truly replicates the feel of the 1:1 gp car one can still find art auto 1/8 t35....pretty close to scratch built and priced accordingly...i have an example from the original run many years ago but they are still being made.
I am very happy with my CMC model and while there a few items that could be improved, for $300 it is hard to beat. If you are inclined to spend the money for a truly amazing model, then in addition to Art Auto, you should check out Fine Art Models. Bring a bunch of cash, their Bugatti 35 sells for $8500.
What is the "safety wire" that is mentioned by the owner of the model in the pictures. Is it the silver wire that surrounds all of the body surfaces? What is its purpose???
Duh! It totally flew past me.Thanks.A friend just got his CMC Bug recently and I can't wait to check it and the safety wire out in person
the actual body screws are basically a 5mm thumbscrew with a slit milled parallel to the shank...the body panels have holes [with brass grommets] and the frame rails are hand tapped to take the screw...once fitted and hand tightened, the "safety wire", actually soft copper wire, is wrapped at an end screw head..the wire is tightened and slipped into the slit of the next screw ,given a wrap and on to the next....photos often show a criss-cross pattern between panels but the correct way is one wire does one panel so as to minimise work if a panel needs removing in haste. actually it's a huge pita but i have observed body screws un-screwing themselves at speed if not wired.
