    Hello from Germany,

since I prepared some pictures for a german scale model board, I won't miss, showing them here too.
Though it's the greatest die-cast model I have, I always found it a bit bland without all livery, how it came from CMC. The Spyder they offered with a few decals, but no such thing for the Coupé.
But now some french ebayer offers custom made decals for two Le Mans versions of this car.
Even though I have some experience with scale modelling, these decals were hard to handle.
But I'm very happy with the result. Now I like this 'forever very last CMC-produced Ferrari' much better.

    Best Regards
    Martin

I have mentioned it often. Don't get fooled by pictures.
The rivets are perfect when seeing the model in the flesh.

Looks much better. What kind of decals are these and what was so difficult about them? Also who's the Ebay seller? Might be interested to do this myself as well.

    Thanks, Peter

After careful review of the decal sheet that this ebay seller is offering, I noticed there's a few decals on the sheet that don't belong on the car according to the instructions where to place them... Also the price is a bit steep on what you get $24US + $7.00 shipping... Also how the development of the decals was made... i.e. laser printer or the traditional way and how well to they stick to the painted surface of the model? Any prep work prior to adding the decals on the car and how about after? How do you seal them to prevent them from rubbing, flaking off over time or when the model is handled?

    Rob,and Peter,

Pedro (furoni) already posted the link to the ebay seller.
first of all, they are no traditional silk-screen printed decals.
They are printed with the Microdry-method ( Alps-printer method )
They stick very well on the painted surface. I used one decal, which I didn't need on a test surface and two days later I tried to tear it apart with a piece of adhesive tape. I wasn't damaged.
They are very well printed, though you can see a grid pattern, if you look through a strong magnifier.
These are the good things. Now for the problems.
They are not suffixiently opaque for a red substrate. Especially the big white number circles. The red shines theough and makes them slightly pink.
I had to make exact size circles from white decal foil with the help of my circle cutter and underly the decals with those. Good thing is, the decals and my decal foil are very thin and the result was not thicker, than industrial manufactured silk-screen decals.
Another hassle was, the decals absolutely don't respond to decal softers. I have two different ones and even the strongest didn't cause any effect.
The only thing, what helped to make the decals nestle properly around the rivets on the doors was a hairdryer and gentle pressure with a soft, damp cloth.
On my plastic models built from kits I always painted over the decals with 2-pack Urethane clear coat, but that's of course not possible with the CMC-model.
Therefore you cannot achieve the most perfect result. But compared to the decals on my HW Elite cars, the result is equal.
I keep all my CMC cars in single display cabinets. So I rarely have to handle them.
But if, I avoid touching the decals.

By all means, I think the much better looks of the car does more than compensate the little imperfections of the decals.
And 'steep price'? O.k, that's everyone's own decision. Like paying the price for a CMC-model:)
But these are just my 2 cents.

    Best Regards
    Martin

Thanks Martin for the clarity on these decals... One question I forgot to ask which you already addressed ... the white number board circles and I believe the solution for a permanent correction would be to have the designer go back and make three passes with the white ink to build up the white background. I know the Alps-printer is the only printer that can print white ink. Hopefully this will eliminate the “pink” color from coming through the white background… and I’m assuming the decals were designed with a victor graphic program such as “Adoba Illustrator, or Photoshop program which shouldn’t be difficult to do. I too like the final results on this CMC's plain model... They should have done this before releasing the model to us.

I received my first two models in the mail today. A stunning CMC 312 engine and an inexpensive coca cola 935 k4 car.

Both in displays, I wasn't expecting the cases. Interesting hobby.
