I finally received my CMC Transporter, it was like having Christmas a week early for me.
What can I say, it is a very impressive model. There was so much said and written about that transporter before it became available. So I will skip that part!

Unpacking the model was so exciting, and there it was. The long waiting time is finally over. All I can say is; “It was defiantly worth it”.

CMC recommends to place those four plastic stands under the chassis. So that in time the tires will not get flat spots. The weight of the transporter is 4kg, about (8.8 pounds).
I defiantly mount four stands on that heavy model. But those plastic stands included are kind of ruin the looks of the displayed transporter.

Since CMC uses DIN tread, I used some threaded bolts I had available and mounted them in place of those black plastic stands. I may paint those 4 bolts black, have not decided yet.

Now it was time to place some CMC models on the Transporter. After that was completed,
a few photos of the loaded Transporter were taken.

Your commends on those regular plastic stands and the replaced bolts are welcome.

The bolts look a lot better than the standard plastic ones. It kind of looks as if its up on air jacks. I wonder if one did without the stands and moved the model a fraction every few weeks would it solve the problem of the wheels going flat?

Your right, it does like the transporter is on air-jacks!
Ones I receive the CMC display case the model will then be permanent displayed.
Another reason I don’t want to move the transporter ones a month, so the wheels wont get that flat spot.

I thing it’s up to the individual collector how he wants to display the truck………

Congrats on this model. I'll be getting mine in a few weeks. Too bad about those jacks. Maybe CMC should have gone for solid tires so the flat spotting wouldn't be possible anyway.
I'm not going to use the jacks, or possibly something that's more hidden (more inward, perhaps behind the wheels?)

Those ramps don't seem very sturdy. Are they metal or plastic? I was thinking of displaying it like that (with a car on the ramps) but I wonder if the ramps would bend and break under the load over time?

    Best, Peter

    Thank you!
I dried to place a support under the rear axle, but there is no room for and it would be to unstable. The front axle would be ok.

The ramps are metal, but they are flimsy. Placing a model there would slightly bend them.
I would mount a thin sheet of aluminum or other metal under need the ramp to give a better support. The metal wont be showing!

Just trying to understand here... The bolts used to support the model are threaded into existing holes in the chassis? What does CMC provide as stands/supports?

    Thanks!

Circular pieces of black plastic about half an inch in diameter. IMO they do nothing for the look of the model.

I real like and want the transporter, but for around $800 it is a joke that it needs supports.

Thanks Morry, I will drop in, just saying I understand it's a very heavy model but I feel it should of been designed without the need of those distracting supports .

I have sold over 70 of these and every buyer has been ecstatic. The model is made from over 3100 parts, the detail is fantastic. There is so much positive about this model, the issue raised here with the supports is really nit-picking, even if this was a $2000 model. Trust me, come down and check it out, you will love it.

    Rocco ;
I bought one of these and plan to make something more centralized under the chassis to support the weight of the truck with a few cars on it . hopefully at a glace it will not show like what i am seeing here in photos. I agree its BS and they should have engineered a solid non collapsible tyre but really this truck is so absolutely incredible it elevates diecast to a new Art! Worth every single penny in my humble opinion . I cant imagine they will produce too many at this price ( 1000 as a guess) but once you see it in the flesh you will be wowed. when these sell out they will surely appreciate in value.

    Hello thedoc,

I surely would like to see your centralized support once it is completed.
I tried to do the same, but the rear axle won’t give you much room to have a good support of the transporter. The front axle should not be that much of a problem.

There is allot pro’s and con’s in my thread on the support of the transporter.
It is really up to the person what he wants’ to do.
I prefer to have a support, with a load of three cars makes the weight over 12 pounds. That weight will defiantly give the tires a flat spot within time.

Hi this.. This is Wilbo.. I normally lurk over on Scale18.com but I am a HUGE Ferrari fanatic..

I recently received the Transporter and I was very happy with it.. More on that in a second. I found the thread on Wolfman replacing the ugly plastic supports and was thrilled to see what he did with the silver bolts.. I'd like to do the same when I get my replacement back from CMC.. More on THAT in a second..

Wolfman, what size DIN bolts did you use.. those look really good and how did you paint them? With a sharpie? Enamel?

    Some pics..

I had to send my CMC back to CMC USA for a replacement because I was appalled by the horrible defect of the driver's seat. It was skewed badly over towards the window. I had tried to move it without breaking the seat and it would not budge. CMC USA inspected it and a replacement is currently on the way.

Another view.. you can see the lift on the inside near the console (the console is so cool by the way when you lift it..)
THe problem is that the seat is connected to so many things so it appears the whole setup is glued or bolted in place that way..

SO far this is my whole display for Ferraris in 1:18.. I actually have many more packed away but this is all I have room to display.

I'm still changing stuff around and of course I am waiting for my transporter to come back from CMC USA.

Welcome, I always lurk on scale18 for the latest news and saw your thread about the seat as well. I quickly checked mine and luckily it was okay.

This is a part of my collection with my copy of the CMC transporter on display.

    Hi,

The bolts I’m using are DIN 6mm by 50mm.
Bolt are metallic silver color. Painted the semi flat black enamel paint.
Hope you can find them in Canada!

Thanks my friend.. if I can't find them, maybe I can contact you later.. no rush. I love the silver metallic look of them because they look like air jacks that belong..

I will figure it out.. Again, no idea why CMC picked the cone style other than making it easy to secure the transporter in the styrofoam. They could have included separate pieces for mounting on display.

    Cheers, Will
