I heard a rumor that CMC announced that they will not renew their license with Ferrari, so that means that their will be no new or reproductions of Ferrari models. :(

Seems like fewer companies are making Ferrari models - Make Up Eidolon was a big loss for 1/43 scale when they gave up their license; Tecnomodel was also a fine builder of 1/43 Ferraris, then Hot Wheels, now CMC.

Does anyone know if TSM/Fujimi, Exoto, or Kyosho still have a license ?

MR and BBR are doing a fine job at the high end, it just seems that choices of manufacturers have become more limited.

Online retailers are sending out 20% off CMC mailings. License ends June 30.

This is sad. Amalgam also makes great models including Ferraris.

I'm curious... so who's next not to renew their Licensing with Ferrari... Maybe it’s going to be Amalgam, Kyosho, or Fujimi??? ... And... we all know Exoto doesn’t play within the Licensing rules, they do what they want...

Ugh... I guess I'd better get "off the fence" on a couple of the CMC cars I'd been procrastinating on.

Did you folks not notice, that this whole high-end modelcar business is about to pass away?

Mould costs and chinese wages make this whole thing no more competitive.
Did you ever think about the production costs of those hundreds of tiny parts on a CMC-model? Not to mention the wages for the assemblers, which are rising.
Moreover, chinese companies are more and more uninterested in such tasks and focus more and more on high-tech, mass produced items.

Bburago for instance, is well advised to NOT launch a high-detail series but stick with toys.

I'm in the injection moulding business and have had some insight.

I also like nice, detailed high-tech models but I'm also happy for the people in China, who assembled them, if they get more money for their work and therefore this modelcar business has to be sacrificed.

At the moment CMC pulls the emergency brake with at least eliminating the license costs for Ferrari. But I'm sure, that this is just the beginning, because the growing cost factor will also affect the rest of their business.

20 or 30 years ago we were happy with Bburago or Jouef-stuff, because there were no alternatives in 1:18. So who cares.

    Best Regards from Germany
    Martin

I hear what you're saying... at the same time there's clearly room in the marketplace for a mid-level offering, like the Hotwheel Elite cars. Reasonable detail and value... not over the top, built with 1500 parts to make a single car...
