Guy was heading to TX2K11 in Houston and got as far as El Paso, when all hell broke loose.

I feel bad for the guy, but not sorry.

Lesson learned I guess? I don't even leave my 4Runner running in my driveway when/if I forget something.

Alot of people go to Houston for this event and hit the streets late at night. Probably fuel for running with the weekend street racers.

Still waiting for photos to pop up somewhere, surprised Jalopnik hasn't reported on this yet but most likely still waiting on the facts.

I am still amazed that people blame victims for crimes, like they deserved it or something. No one, I mean no one, deserves to be victimized by crime. The only one at fault is the criminal.

Now should he have taken precautions? Sure. But to berate the guy in the least or say "don't feel sorry for him" is in my view like saying crime is OK and the citizens need to prevent it.

I'm trying as hard as I can to work up some pity - nay, sympathy for this guy. He's got a Cobra, an enclosed trailer, a nice truck and is headed off for a long trip to a car do. Now, I'm no brianiac but you stop in El Paso TX. You go to a cheap hotel with no security parking, you leave the keys in the car, and walk away from it.

    W-T-F!

I feel somewhat sorry for the loss of the car. Can't work up anything for the guy who thought a few free rolls was a deal while his stuff idled away in the front of the hotel, a few hundred feet from the border.

Yeah, I take it back. People who make careless and stupid mistakes deserve to suffer wholly out of proportion while (1) being derided by those of us who never make mistakes; and (2) there is no mention at all of the real villain, the criminal who committed the crime.

Let's add to this list women who are sexaully assaulted when they dress "provacatively" and/or go alone to the wrong part of town. They deserve no pity but plenty of derision?

I am not saying that precautions are not sensible, but wow is there a lot of tolerance for criminal conduct and blame on the victim.

I feel sorry for the guy and bet he is kicking him self plenty hard enough and does not need our help.

Ok, I take it back too. The gummint should have cops on every corner, and private companies should have 7/24 security so that nothing bad can ever happen to clueless jackasses who through their carelessness raise insurance rates for everyone.

You should be able to leave your car unlocked and running anywhere you want. hell, take locks off doors, and leave your jewelry in the front yard. Private property be damned! Everything belongs to everyone all the time, and no one 'owns' their property, because we have 50% of the population working to watch the other 50% to make sure everyone is safe. I know I trust the cops/security more than I trust the criminals. Yep, uh-huh this should work well.

ANYWHERE along an interstate is now dangerous for this type of activity. I won't even stay in a hotel off an interstate....I will get a few miles away when I have something I absolutely do not want tampered with....like my F-car.
