I am just about to replace the rubber trim in my '73 GTS which goes around both door opeings and over the top to seal the back and the front of the targa top.

This is a single piece of trim.

My question is , where was the join between the ends of this trim originally made??

    Thanks
    Dave

Looks like I should have a good look at the car before I post!!!!

At present the seal is in two pieces starting at the front bottom corner of the door and progressing over the windshield with one piece and over the rear of the cockpit with the other piece before joining up again at the front bottom corner of the door on the other side.

    Is this correct?

Dave, I am fairly sure that when i took mine apart (long time ago!) that it was in two pieces.

dave, i have replaced the seal on my gts, but only the part in back. it runs from front corner of the door, along the sill , up around the top where the top latches, down to the sill , and over to the corner. i am guessing the front trim over the windshield header is totally separate as it would be a pretty sharp bend from the sill up the front sides. in short it would be two sections . maybe another gts owner has more info ? one thing for sure is to be careful when putting your top on so as not to pinch the seal with the latches,or you will put holes in the new seal. i try to push the top firmly forward to the header before latching. dan

Single piece. Starts in the drivers door lower sill in the front, but there is not any reason why you couldn't accomplish the same in two pieces.

PS - There was a full set on ebay for $99 in #400001891475

what was auctioned is the "current" replacement material. the original has a fabric material embedded into the trim.

original "stuff" is very hard to come by. we have grown to accept this material like we have the current mouse hair. it isn't what was on the cars when new.
