My wife surprised me last week with a copy of the new COD. I am not a huge gamer, but I enjoy shooting my buddies online in other games.

The first time I loaded COD Online game, my PS3 crashed and I had to turn it off using the switch in the back and reboot. I was able to get it working again and played a couple more sessions in the next few days.

The last time I tried to play i got the flashing red light of death (as I later found out it is called online) and the disc would not eject. I was able to find a technique online to get the disc to eject, but the PS3 is still dead. It won't turn on at all, I hit the power button and it turns green then yellow then solid red.

Did this happen to anyone else? I am really bummed. I have an old 40gb, but never had a problem before this.

No probs here . I've been playing CODBO at least every other day since it came out , for a couple hours at a time. My PS3 is only about a year old though .

Most likely the PS3 was on it's last legs and it just happened to die while playing COD. It's rare for a game to cause damage to hardware. Games do make the video/cpu's hot but they are designed to handle it.

Much like you need to pull apart the PC every few years to remove the dust it's the same for consoles. Most likely some part of the PS3 is overheating or there is dust clogging up the vents.

http://playstationlifestyle.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2376 this site has guides on how to take the ps3 apart to clean it and fix. (assuming it's out of warranty of course).

My friend told me a few days ago COD Black Ops fried his ps3 hard drive. It was still under warranty, so he had to ship it back to Sony. He's without it for about 3 weeks I believe.

    Interesting...

the EXACT same thinkg happened to my using XBox360.

Have had the xbox for 4 years, no issues. Started playing COD BO and after the second day, all of a sudden I got the checkered red screen and then later the RROD.

Multiple reboots, turn off, wait, turn on only reproduced the results.

Doing research told me that those are the symptoms of a dead xbox. Since it's out of warranty I was SOOL.

I have a hard time believing it was the game, though.

Bought the new Kinect with the 250g drive. Bought the cable and copied my old hard drive to the new one and have now played for 1.5 weeks without any problems.

I think it was just bad timing... :(
