I just replaced the original dynoplex ignition on my 246 with the superformance system.. and I figured i would replace my spark plug wires with new ones from superformance .. and i am having a very hard time getting the coil wire from the trunk to the distributor... anyone have any guidance on this.. I have removed the old wire (probably a dumb move but that ship has sailed) and also how long should the coil wire be.. ???

Did this myself in the spring. Getting the coil wire from the dizzy into the trunk through the narrow tunnel is a PITA. Nevertheless, I did it, so you can too.

Easiest way is to start in the trunk so you are pushing the smaller diameter dizzy boot forward towards the dizzy rather than trying to push the larger coil boot backwards. If you have removed the wheel and inner wheel arch you can feel where the tunnel starts at both ends. I used a wire hanger threaded rearwards from dizzy to trunk. It's only about 6-8 inches to get through the tunnel. Connect the plug wire and boot to the coil so you don't pull the whole thing through. Then I put tape around the rubber boot to collapse it as much as possible, taped it to the hangar, covered the whole thing in tuneup grease, and slowly pulled the lead forward from the trunk towards the dizzy. Slowly.

First time I did it I pulled the lead right off the wire and had to buy a new coil wire, but that's when I was pushing the coil boot backwards rather than pulling the dizzy boot forwards. Just go slow and stop if you hit an obstacle, and work it back and forth a bit. It will come. Don't remember the length of the coil wire as I bought a custom wire kit from Magnecor (already pre-cut with leads and boots installed). I would guess around 16-20 inches?

It would be much easier if you had a crimping tool and knew what you were doing. Then you just push the bare wire through without the lead and boot and install the lead and boot once everything is in place. It's the rubber boot that makes this difficult, as it wants to snag on everything in the tunnel.

Inner wheel well has a bunch of screws around the periphery. Removal is simple. Access to distributor much easier with that out of the way.

A shot of silicon spray works wonders on things like this and evaporates off when your done. Windex is not a bad way to go either.
