Hi..I'm a new 328 owner and new to Ferrari Chat. I hope I'm following the correct procedures for asking for help. I live in So.Cal in the mountains above Palm Springs. My typical drive can bring me from 6,000 feet down to nearly sea level in a 35 mile trip (Idyllwild to Palm Desert). Do 328 owners follow a procedure get their cars started in cold/hot....sea level/6000' with a minimum of grinding on the starter? I have a 01 Miata that you turn the key and it starts instantly no matter what. I'm finding that my 87 GTS isn't quite that easy starting. It has 75,000 miles on it and was a daily driver when I brought it to CA from Dallas. Norwood Performance did a PPI on it and it checked out well and just had a major service at their shop and is a car they have serviced for the previous 5 years. So it is higher milage than many other 328's, but has had good care.. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've learned alot already from Ferrari Chat threads. Thanks, Paul PS...I am blessed to have a great Ferrari drive at my home grounds...Hwy 243 from Banning to Idyllwild...Hwy 74 from there to Palm Desert. Curves....yet you can enjoy the throttle.

You've not had any responses in the 3x8 forum. I'm from Denver, the "mile high" city, and while I don't currently have a 328, I'm actively (or semi-actively) looking. Anyway, you could post this in the Rocky Mountain section or PM one of the regulars who owns a 328 who posts in that forum to see if there is anything they do. I have not heard of anything, but I would be interested in finding out.

Thanks for your reply. In Dallas the car started easily cold ...no throttle, just turn the key and it started. Now I grind and grind....On the third try, I slowly push the gas to the floor and grind again and in 5 seconds or so it starts with a rush in rpms to 3500....I worry I am needlessly wearing out a starter. I live in a strange place...I can get up and have the temperature at 20f, and drive to the desert(Palm Desert/Palm Springs) and be in the 80s in a 35 minute drive. (When you see Tiger putting at Bighorn, I live in the mountains in the background.) Thanks. ...Paul
