What motorcycles from the 80s do you think are worth keeping? Browsing on Ebay it looks like you can find decent bikes for under $2,000. The ones that I have been watching are: The Yamaha RZ bikes. (I used to have a RZ500. Like a dumbass, I let it go.) The BMW RS 100s. Japanese trials bikes. Honda VF bikes. What Ducatis from the 80s might be worth keeping? Your thoughts? Dale PS No Harley Junk
Before there was a Monster there was......................... http://userdata.acd.net/stratten/hawkgt.html
While I realize you don't like Harleys, maybe make an exception for an XLCR (the Harley Davidson Cafe Racer)? http://www.ironharley.com/xlcr.htm
1986 FJ1200.... VERY collectable. Ohh... lookie here... I JUST happen to have one for sale !!! All original. VERY good shape. Runs, rides perfect. A real velvet hammer, the Hayabusa of its day. $2900
Some interesting Ducatis from the '80s.... 750 F1 - The bike that started my obsession with the brand. 851 - One of the tri color, hand built models. 750 Sport - starting to get more recognition 750 Paso - controversial... but it does have it's fans MHR - Hailwood replica bevel bikes 900ss - Another bevel bike, successor of the '74 750 SS already mentioned Outside of Ducati-dom I'd have to put a Honda RC30 high on the list... even as much as I like Ducs, it would place #2 on my list if I had these in order...
Thanks for the Duck walk list. Howza bout the Honda Interceptors? Didn't they start in the early 80s. Would a pristine first year model be worth hanging on to? Dale
Kawasaki 900 eliminator very rare Yamaha Seca series I can't remember what is was but Kawasakis first cafe style bikes similar to the ZR1 1000 they were red with horizonal stripes on the tanks, they also made a limited edition Spectre series, I would go for the big CC bikes.
1980 Mystery Ship - 10 made http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/classics/bike.asp?id=35 King Kenny Roberts’ Throne http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/classics/bike.asp?id=36 At first, the Katana may not have gone over well, but... http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/classics/bike.asp?id=31 More to chose from decades past http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/classics/index.asp?sid=
My fav was the Yamaha Phazer. Had the 5 valves per cylinder engine in it. That and the Radian were parts bike for Yamaha and the Phazer was a rocket.
A bit older, but I have one of these..... not a rocket ship, but lots of fun. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My choices would be the Honda Interceptor 500 (I learned to ride on one of these) the Yamaha FJ 1100 or 1200 fantastic combo of cruiser and sport. I can personally vouch for the Yamaha FZ 700 having owned one it had the genesis engine with 5 valves per cylinder and was a great performer (for its day) 0-60 in 3.3 1/4 in 11.4@120 and it was a superb handler very narrow and nimble. There was also the FZR 400 which revved to about 14k if you are looking for a smaller bike. Kawasaki GPZ 550 is a great cruiser as is the Honda nighthawk and not wanting to leave out Suzuki the GS series were good cruisers with the 550 and 1000.
LOL, I love it. I can't believe there wasn't anybody in any meeting speaking up and saying this may not be a good idea. The only duc from the 80's that I could see owning is a Paso.

I didn't say not worth having. The only 80's ducati that I can see myself owning is a Paso. That being said I probably wouldn't sell it if I inherited something else. I prefer the singles of the 60's myself. If I remember correctly you have a few of those too.
Not lucky enough to have single duc right now. I sure do like the desmo singles though. A little 350 would be a blast to cruise around town on. As for other 80 ducs, I've always had a sweet spot for the F1. Such a minimalist bike. Not a lot of power, but especially the late ones with the 17' wheels , handle soo sweet.
Your saying stuff like the 900ss and 851 are nothing, yet you would like a PASO, Ducatis biggest pile ever!
