It would be a shame if we travelled through your state and missed some great driving simply because we didn't know where the twistiest highways were.

    Why don't we...
-Give the name of your state
-Explain where the best twisty highways are
    -Tell us what they're like
-Tell us how long they run
-Advise as to the 'policeing' activity there
-Advise as to the posted limit

Seems to me this could be a good resource thread. I would assume states like Nevada and Texas have nothing but straight highways, prove me wrong!;)

There was this great winding road outside of Winnipeg. It goes straight for 140 miles, but there's a slight curve to it so you have to turn once. :D

One crazy road was the highway along the coast from Monaco to Genova. Turns and tunnels for miles and miles...

Hwy 161 between Hwy 101 to where it meets the end of the earth at Hwy 1 overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If you time it right, you'll get some good views or the whales migrating - just follow the plumes!

It's windy, interesting terrain, cute little towns/wineries along the way, a good section thru the redwood forest and nice inclines towards the coast. Not very heavily traveled except on Sunday afternoon from the Coast back inland for those who went out for a weekend getaway. Lots of areas for slower cars to pull over and some nice stretches of broken white lines to pass.

    It's about 60 miles.

Have only seen police around the small towns but you get plenty of warning that you are approaching those towns.

Posted limit is 60 except for the really windy areas.

Santa Barbara County has a plethora of awesome roads kicking around, and there is a nice website that documents just about all of them roads

    www.sbc-rides.com

List of almost all the roads here, and one of my favorites.

    http://www.sbc-rides.com/StreetRides/gibraltercamino/gibralterecamino.html

What's really cool is that a lot of these roads are "along" highway 154 so you can go from one to the other and do circuits of sorts for as many miles as you want.

Alp d'hues flashbacks, aaaaarrrrggghhhhh Alps on Ducati... priceless
    ---------------------------------------------------
short and often dangerous LA area drives:
-Corral Canyon Malibu (very narrow, lots of rockslides) ~15 minutes of harsh-gravelly turns. no cops, ever
-Angeles Crest, Big Tujunga Both are long enough to allow good speed going into turns, I ate a 360 in a Volvo S60T5 (the 't' is for touge :) ) there lastweek. Good for beginners. Never seen a cop there either, you can just keep switching from road to road here.
-Ortega Highway (motorcyclists eat it there very often) cop city during daylight hours ~30minutes of fun.

    Shorties for beginners:
-Mulholland is good for low speed with lots of twists. no cops, ever. ~20 minutes from the 101 to the 405
-Nichols Canyon. no cops, ever. 10 minute blast up the hill

I am sure you LA guys can come up with some more that are even better.

I did that route when I was on vacation there a few years ago, it's an absolute blast. I did almost drive over the edge once though because my rental car brakes faded on the downhill stretch.
    That was sobering.;)

Lesson??? ALWAYS take a rental car for scouting first on any twisty, that way if you loose it, it ain't a big loss.

Not all that many in OH but Rt 800 in the south eastern part of the state. It starts in New Philadelphia and runs to Fly. Yes Fly ( on the Ohio river near WV). The northern part is somewhat dull but there are some little towns that are kind of nice. The Ducati always gets a few looks when we stop for lunch. The southern part is lots of fun with some straights to stretch her legs out on but pay attention to the signs that tell you there is a turn coming. Just ask the guy in the Integra that tried to keep me from passing him. OOPS.

Lombard Street San Francisco :) j/k

There is one major curvy section when you head west from the Yosemite region headed to the Bay Area. Its the poorer cousin of the Stelvio Pass in Eurrope.

Stelvio Pass has awesome views. I havent been on it personally but seen vids of cars going down some sections of it.

Insurance is always a good thing to have from the rental company. 10-15 bucks a day cause that little Cavalier car will def see more airtime than the X-games !!

I will have to say Rte 194 from Elk Park Falls to Valle Crucis NC (near Boone NC). Beautiful road for scenary (for the passenger only) and curvy as shyt too. I see a lot of Ferrari owners out there on Sundays (8-10 cars deep).

    Blue Ridge Parkway

Rte 184 from Banner Elk to Beech Mtn. They used to have a race once a year from the bottom of the Mountain to the top but I haven't heard of any latest developments of the event since 2002.

Pleasant Garden to Micaville on Rte 80 near Marion NC. They call it the Lake Tahoma Drive which passes by the Lake and the Old small resort casino.

Hanging Rock to Pilot Mtn (North of Winston Salem)- Rte 8, 89, 66, and 268

Rte 276 between Hendersonville and Waynesville NC.

Rte 28 and 64 from Franklin NC to Highlands NC. (Very fun road !!!)

Rte 31 and 66 near Rogersville TN

Rte 58 from Marion VA to Galax VA.

Old Liberty Road from Liberty NC to Asheboro NC. A few One lane bridges but it has 100 curves in 5 miles.

Old Rte 23 from Johnson City TN to Asheville NC.

Rte 421 from Boone NC to Bristol TN.

Northwest part of SC near Greeneville SC has some good curvy roads.

As said before Tail of the dragon/Cherhola skyway/All of Rte 28

Rte 28 is an evil road though since that is where I got caught speeding 30+ mph. The officer dropped it down to 15 over and the court dropped it to 9mph over so it wouldn't go on my insurance. I still had to pay 125 bucks (25 for the ticket and 100 for the court cost).

I know a few more but them are going to be a secret. My next door neighbor used to be the Guilford Co Sheriff in Greensboro NC so he told me a few but I will be keeping them a secret.
