Does anyone have any recent experience with American Collectors Insurance, Inc.? How well do they handle claims?

Their premiums are very low - almost too good to be true! And, we all know what that means!

I seem to remember seeing a Thread on this company somewhere but can't find it now.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Do you have a rate quote you'd be willing to share, including mileage limitations, parking restrictions, value, whether it is an agreed or stated value policy? (I forget the difference -- it seems one of those valuation schemes depreciates the value over each renewal period, even if you keep listing the value at $70k, and the other doesn't). For my purposes, I have preferred the policies brokered by Leland West over other policies because they have high mileage limits and provide coverage when my 246GTS is parked while out to dinner and when parked overnight on vacation trips. You'd be surprised at the number of policies that do NOT provide coverage for temporary parking or trip parking while on vacation. I'll dig out my various policies and post them in a day or two.

Other policies are even better with no mileage limits and also allow you to regularly drive your car to work -- Marsh offers such policies (through CHUBB??) but you need to integrate everything (your home(s), all vehicles, and perhaps airplanes and boats too) into those policies, which was something I didn't want to do -- I don't want something to happen with one insured item and then have its loss potentially drive up the insurance for all of my other insured items.

Also, be really careful about whether driving schools, rallyes, and ANY type of track event TIMED OR NOT TIMED (even if simply doing a parade lap at a vintage/historic event) is covered by your policy. The collector insurance on my Austin-Healey covers non-timed track events (read driving schools) while the insurance (different carrier) on my 246GTS EXPRESSLY does NOT cover ANY type of track event, including driving schools, and from what I can tell, even slow paced parade laps since such a parade lap would be on a track or race course. BUT, my 246GTS insurance provides much higher mileage limits AND parking protection when on overnight trips or not in my regular secured garage.

    Mark,

I've concentrated on 3 companies: Leland West. Hagerty and American Collectors.

All provide coverage based on "Agreed Value". Because of this, premiums are based on the value you and the company agree upon. ACI is the only one that has an automatic inflation guard of 8%/Yr. For anyone interested, it is best to log-on to each web sight, plug-in one's specific data and get an on-line quote.

Right now, if I had to pick one, it probably would be Hagerty because they quoted the lowest primium for the highest liability coverage, no deductables, most liberal policy for unattended parking and "parade laps" (exhibition only) and my Safeco agent is also a Hagerty agent. I have 3 cars that fall in this catagory so I don't come close to the 2500 mile/yr. limit on any one of the cars.

FWIW, Marsh/Chubb writes classic and collector car policies through Hagerty.
