    I think people get classical collectible and antique concept mixed up all the time, according to what I've concluded this is my opinion on the subject:
    Collectible:
    anything is collectible as long as here is somebody behind it trying to make a collection out of it.

    antique:
    anything that is at least 25 yrs old.

    classic:
    this is the tricky one, it must be a model that was or is produced in limited quantities and because of its design, production techniques or performance becomes a benchmark for the industry.

    I would strike "limited quantities" from that definition, since there are many cars that are undeniably classics even though production may have been well into 6 figures. For example, the 1964-67 Pontiac GTO, with around 200,000 produced, is most definitely a classic. It wa great looking, had great performance for its time, and started the whole muscle car craze in the 60's.

    like I said that's the tricky one.........I can agree with you to a certain extent but the classic would be the first runs of these examples as more and more cars implement the benchmarks of these models into production the classic value gets erased........for example the firsts runs of the vw beetle and the last ones........well you know what i meant by limited quantities now I hope.

    In my opinion, you're actually getting to the very core of why it happens. The answer is no. If it's not widely regarded, coveted, it wouldn't matter how rare or novel it was.

    Most states will supply collector plates to cars after 20 years, so apparently if it can still move under its own power after 20 years have past, its got to be collectable to someone. I dont believe ive ever seen a 1972 Chrysler Simca 1300 with collector plates. Or a 72 Plymouth Cricket either for that matter. And I highly doubt that in 20 years anyone will be dumb enough to keep an Aztec running. But who knows, maybe it will be some wierd cult car by then, people will hoard them and have wierd feelings of them, like pyramids that focus wierdness. Off subject but, WHY DID ANYONE BUY AN AZTEC?

    In my opinion, antique cars are over 50 years old. Classic can be anything people want to say it is, even something new.

    My wife has her mothers tea cup collection. Each year her father would make a buisness trip to Canada, and brought back a new Royal Albert tea cup, the next flower in a series. Ive continued adding to it, but im sure there is much more invested than any of its worth. Even so, they are collectable.

    We'll never know, on the Aztec, but they have suprisingly high customer satisfaction percentages, so whatever they like about them, they like it a LOT!! LOL!

    My son verbally attacked my die cast Ferrari collection the other evening, so I guess HE doesn't care anything about it...
