Gators need Bama to win out in the West but lose (to us) in the SEC Championship game. We have to solidify our case for playing in the BCS title game.

I don't know, he's been there a long time and had a great deal of success. I think he gets a pass for this year but if the losing continues next year he'll be in trouble.

I think Coach Tuberville at Auburn will get a pass for the year if they lose to Alabama, but will be put on no-**** double top secret probation.

If Oklahoma beats Texas Tech, who wins the South?

Texas has tiebreaker head-to-head over Oklahoma
    Oklahoma over Texas Tech
    Tech over Texas.

Would it be possible that Oklahoma would play for National Championship (given some other losses), but not even play in their championship game?

Not sure about this. A loss next weekend and I think its even money that he'll be collecting unemployment after this season (not to mention the $6M buyout).

I'm thinking that Florida will win the SEC and be a 11-2 champion.
USC will likely get the other Chmapionship game bid (PSU will get the first).
So a Rose bowl matchup in Miami for the championship is my guess.
TT is really good, and their QB is the best in college today IMHO.
I'm surprised Texas lost, but they made too many mistakes and did not have much pop last night.
I think Miami will play Cincinati in the Orange bowl classic (that is my hope anyways)!
    GO CANES!

I stayed up late last night and watched the Auburn game (missed it the first time around because I was in Tuscaloosa).

I don't think the problem is Tubbs. I think it's at QB. Burns either isn't the real thing or he really needs a new QB coach behind him. He is playing so bad he is ruining it for the rest of a very talented team.

Who do you think they are going to lose to if they are going to win the east? With Vandy, SC, Citadel and FSU left on the schedule, the championship game is going to be by far their most difficult game.

The part I have a problem with is we seem to have gotten worse at QB throughout TT's tenure. That does make it his fault.

    Rankings are out...

    1. Alabama (46) 9-0 1,600
    2. Texas Tech (12) 9-0 1,528
    3. Penn State (6) 9-0 1,525
    4. Florida (1) 7-1 1,398
    5. Texas 8-1 1,353
    6. Oklahoma 8-1 1,324
    7. USC 7-1 1,250
    8. Oklahoma State 8-1 1,198
    9. Boise State 8-0 1,030
    10. Utah 9-0 1,028

Texas Tech has the toughest schedule left. If they remain undefeated, I will agree that they should remain at the top.

    GO LSU beat ALABAMA!

Yeah, congrats to Tech. They are a good team no doubt.

The Tech & Oklahoma State Vs. Oklahoma will be good games. Someone has to lose them which should shake things up a little more.

I'm tired to hearing about Penn State. They have NOOOOOO business at all being #3. They should be no higher than #10 until they play some good teams. All the teams in the top #8 could whoop Penn State with their eyes closed.

Tech still has to run the same type of gauntlet that Texas just unsuccessfully finished so it will be interesting if they can win out. Even more interesting if they only lose to Oklahoma with Texas and OK also winning out.

On a side not...I could have caught that damn interception, it wasn't a rocket of a pass, he wasn't laying out to catch it, he didn't have to jump and reach, the ^$%&#$@ thing fell through his hands! It didn't pass through his hands it was tipped felw up into the air and fell through his hands with <30 seconds on the damn clock. /rant

It's tough to play ranked teams when the Big 12 takes up most of the list. Admittedly the Big 10 has been trumped by both the SEC and Big 12, but if you fail to see why Penn State is where they are, then I am not sure I can help you.

As I stated before, they are an extremely well coached and consistent team. I am sorry you think otherwise, but luckily you aren't involved in the polling process.

Lastly, explain to me how USC is where they are and then you should have your answer about PSU. If you can't figure out the answer to this one, it is obvious that you know very little about college football or at least the ranking system.

In other words, your [flawed] assumption is that the rankings should be solely based on the caliber of the teams that are played. Since Penn State has not played any top ranked teams, then they shouldn't be up at the top.

My holding is: How can PSU not be in the top when you have nothing to compare them to? You have to weigh the other factors. The fact of the matter is that the rankings are based some on schedule, outcome and adversity, but there is an unknown element that PSU and USC fill in. Stats, Hype, Publicity and historical prowess all fill in the void. A void that you can't seem to acknowledge. Penn State has the largest alumni program in the country, the largest University owned stadium and the winning-est coach in college football. The voters do not ignore this in their calculation. Not some fuzzy logic that you subscribe to: "Penn State barely beat OSU". I've already discredited this logic. USC is a top 10 ranked team. They lost a guarunteed lock to Oregon State, a team that Penn State beat with a commanding victory and then pulled their starters by half time.

Which brings up a good point, Penn State is a gentleman's team played by the most known/ historic coach in college football. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), his direct presence led them to stray from their conservative tendencies. However, one thing that they hold true is that they don't play for the polls. They don't run up the score like USC, Alabama, Texas knowing that the gravity of defeat is what the voters want to see. This was the controversy in 1994 and it could be a controversy again this year.

Lastly, why do you want to see the same teams play in the BCS championship? Why not allow PSU their opportunity.. They are undefeated unlike the majority of the top 10 and certainly in many eyes, deserve to play. If they are as bad as they say they are... it will be like every other Big 12/ SEC game.. such a blow out that it is uninteresting. I suspect you will be surprised in the outcome

This year? Are you reading the same Penn State team news feeds I am? I still want PSU to win the national championship, though.

There's no real point in arguing the way football teams are ranked because the only perfect way to actually find out who's better is for them to play each other.

I don't have an issue with Penn State, and believe that Paterno has gotten screwed out of more National Championships than anyone. Lost count of how many undefeated seasons he's had that didn't result in a National Championship. I think Penn State is suffering from what's happened to OSU the past two years. Whether its fair or not, people don't want to see a Big10 team in the Championship game because of the possibility of a repeat of the past two years. Much like those years that the Big12 Champion (Oklahoma) got pasted in consecutive years. People just tend to get sour on a conference when the aren't even competetive in the big game. Texas got the Big12 past that in '06, perhaps its Penn State's turn this year. Tough to say.

I was speaking more in terms of on the field. PSU isn't the first team to have issues off the field...

Anywho, do you know what Paterno did to the team because of a select few? He makes the ENTIRE team help clean the stadium on Sunday and the money gained goes to a student organization. (At penn state organizations can clean Beaver Stadium on Sunday to help fund their budgets).

Ask USC what happens at the end of year year after blowing out jokes for teams all season. They win 50-7 against everyone they play, rocket to #1, media talks about then as if they as the second coming of Christ, there's non-stop chatter about Heisman, then when they get to the big dance they become the joke.

The Big 12 South is loaded with beasty teams with tons of talent and probably the best group of teams in college football this year. Unfortunatly, these teams have to play each other. So someone has to lose, resulting in lower rankings for a highly talented teams. Oklahoma State has yet to play Oklahoma. And Texas Tech has not played Oklahoma yet either. Those two games means some of those great teams are going to suffer more losses and someone is going down in rankings. Meanwhile jokes like PSU beat up on high school caliber teams and slide up the rankings.

PSU is the USF of 2008. Only they don't have anyone to expose them. If PSU was in the Big 12 South, you would no doubt suffer 4 losses this season.

Let's take a look at the last time Texas played for the national championship...
Texas only really had to beat one true top 10 team to get into the championship, and will you look at that: They "barely" beat #4 Ohio State. Seems like an Omen to me.
In fact it looks like their only struggle for the whole season was against a big 10 team.

**edit: Interesting tidbit - That year when Texas beat Ohio State, Ohio State's only other loss was to Penn State.

Moral of the story. Your baseless assumptions could just as easily be used against you for any team, league division for years passed. While I agree that the Big 12 does have a few strong teams, I don't think that you can legitimately write-off other leagues and teams. Penn State has beaten the stats this year. They beat Michigan at home (first time in 11 or 12 years) and they beat Ohio State at home for the first time ever. Regardless of how mediocre they are, these rivals ALWAYS play up to each other... this is the nature of big 10 football.

Open your eyes a bit... There is more to see then the Big 12.

You must be looking at a different LSU team than I have been watching. Cause the one I hve been watching is poorly coached, undisciplined, and looks like they quit caring 5 games ago. Hell they even lined up on the wrong side of the field for the kickoff against Tulane last night. The receivers look like thay have lost all faith in the quarterback (with good reason) and the defense is pitiful. even my jambalya and crawfish pie were cold last night.
