If you have the athletes you can get around a Prevent Defense.

Did you REALLY expect to beat TT?
    Or even be close?

Even if NT doesn’t have a great football team, still has a great jazz music program

Like I said about Florida A&M - the best athletes are in the marching band!

Plus one other thing: I'd rather be at NT in January than Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York....
PLUS I hear the blondes running around are the best around... :D

Damn I hate when refs bail out the ranked teams with clearly biased calls. Virginia Tech deserved that game, Thug U. got the home call. Twice, if you count the phantom holding penalty that wiped out another TD.

Well, Alabama vs. Georgia actually lived up to the hype.

And in other news, North Texas won in a game that was more of a blowout than the trash-time points indicate to go to 4-1 for the year and 1-0 in the AAC.

  8. Colorado is 4-1
    Florida St. is 1-4

    Who would've thunk it.

And UNLV continues winning ... 4-0. Good riddance Sluka.

I'm having real issues accepting a UCLA / Oregon game being a Big10 conference matchup.

Just like the Cal/Stanford game being in the Atlantic Coast Conference? One would think that someone had flunked geography!

    You're not alone.

Hell, I'm still trying to get used to Nebraska being in the Big Ten.

What they SHOULD do is simply eliminate all 'conferences'.

But let's talk about school sports BESIDES football - and basketball.

Lots of baseball, track and field, wrestling, soccer, volleyball athletes are getting scrooed
because very few of them get any money, yet they have to travel cross-country to
    compete now, it's just stupid.

My dream is to attend a post-game press conference and ask the athlete(s) how they are
doing in Psych 101, American History 202, Geology 102, etc.

What's worse to me is the men's sports that are forced to compete as clubs because of Title IX, which because of poor conception was created to eliminate discrimination against women and instead has had the effect of discriminating against men.

My school has, since Title IX, instituted women's teams in lacrosse, soccer and volleyball (and dropped men's wrestling) while the men contiune to toil at the club level, usually having to raise their own money for uniforms, equipment and travel. I've followed the men's lacrosse club and it seems that most of their players quit after their sophomore years because they either can't afford to continue or to concentrate on their studies, since they are the real "student-athletes".

And it doesn't help that their hometown newspaper, which does cover all the team sports very well, even the minor ones, completely ignores the clubs, in spite of my trying to get them to change their ways.

I remember a day when the local paper would carry the stories about
yesterday's Indycar races and nascar races, today they don't even cover
    the LOCAL races anymore...

I'm at a point where I do watch college football, but I don't care about it one iota like I used to.
    Same with basketball.

    What changed?

It wasn't 'money' - I am in Nebraska - I KNOW guys that have been 'getting paid' since I went
to school there 47 years ago, and I covered the teams for 15 years after that as a photographer.

Back then, guys were working 'part-time' at different car dealerships, someone would come in and
'buy' a car, and these guys would 'somehow' get a $2,000+ commission on each one, or another guy
was paid $25 an hour to paint steps in the back end of a warehouse, he'd paint one step, leave for
2 hours, come back and paint another one, over and over and over, for years. Those damned steps
had about 30 coats of paint - steps NOBODY ever used. Strip 'em, rinse and repeat... over and over.
($25 an hour was BIG 45 years ago)

What changed for me was the 'transfer portal'.
It's crazy to me you can quit on a team and go directly to another one and almost play right away...
I can't keep track of them.

  16. As a Bruin, I am having real issues this year accepting UCLA's football program.

In my opinion, an athlete recruited by a school who signs his/her letter and gets a scholarship should be required to play at that school for THREE years before he/she can transfer. (That time can include a redshirt year.)

What's the point of spending a ton of time recruiting an athlete if you know that he/she can skidaddle after a single year? It's ridiculous. If they need to stay three years before they can go to the NFL, they should be required to stay three years before they can go anywhere else!

I know this is a pipe dream, but whatever happened to getting an actual EDUCATION???
These guys that are transferring are NOT getting an education, MOST of them will never
make it to the next level, but they are too stupid to see it.
Transfer once - fine, any more than that is a joke, but you can't tell them that.
(and YES, I know 'education' has meant nothing to about 50% of them for 40 years)

I don't think you can limit when a guy can play in the NFL - that's a decent lawsuit
waiting to happen - because you are impeding a person 'from possibly earning a living'.

There was a racetrack here that banned any drivers that had a DUI, one sued because
we wanted to try and earn a living (winning, prize money), and he would have won, but they
changed the rule - because of him.

I DO think if a coach is fired then HIS recruits should be allowed to leave, but if he resigns
    to go elsewhere, then no.

  21. And we let the DC go crosstown, taking with him our best CB.

  22. I beg to differ.

They are getting an education. An education in, in this case, football.

The fact that many may not play at the next level is irrelevant. How many English majors or Poli Sci majors get jobs in their area of study.

For those not paying attention, Vandy is 2 plays from being 5-0 this season.

Now I'm rooting for Arkansas against Tennessee for maximum chaos.
