This has to have been covered before, but I am not getting much out of my search attempts. What affect do colors have on price (used)? Certainly red is the most common, and probably commands the highest price of any F-car. I have been told that some colors simply don't sell well at all (I am leaving out things like purple and puke green, that's pretty obvious).

If you have a less flashy color (like blue or silver) does it hurt the resale cost, or make it harder to sell, or a little of both? Is it fair to squeeze a seller a bit if you are the buyer?

I could have sworn I'd read similar threads but couldn't find anything searching either.

i think red, black, yellow are the easiest to sell. any off colors definately makes for a harder sale.

Argento (silver) and Titanium have been very strong in the resale market lately. Black can be a hard sell because of upkeep considerations, and yellow scares a lot of buyers who like it but don't know if they can live with it. Rosso Corsa/Tan is without question the best resale combo.

The two Ferrari dealers I deal with say red and silver command more money on resale.

It may depend on the car. The "hot" colors such as resale red and fly yellow aren't necessarily best for a 456, 612 or even a 550/575. Conversely, those lovely blues and greens would look strange on a 430.

Perhaps the only hard and fast rule is, they all look great in black.

I agree with Ronbo. It depends on the model. Post the model at which you are looking, then the discussion will be less opinionated.

Red and black are perennial favorites but idoes depend on models somewhat. A model that is likely to be a starter Ferrari is most popular in red, yet 550's are fine in more muted colors which befit its style.

    Some historical perspective....

Some colors go in and out of style. Orange was popular in the early 70's and many Dinos and Daytonas came orange but most have since been repainted. In the late 70's, yellow really came on and silver was popular again. By the mid 80's, yellow became quite rare (try to find a yellow QV or 328). Silver also fell from favor. Blue made a small comeback in the mid-late 80's and white was at it's most popular in the late 80's (lots of white 328's). Yellow became very popular mid 90's to early 00's, but has become less popular now. By 1990 almost no cars were painted white anymore. Silvers and grays became very popular on 360's and 550's, but will that trend last? On the other hand, our local dealer had a green 328 twice in recent years and it sold quickly both times. A black one has languished there now for quite a while, so go figure.

Great post. I was going to say the same thing, less directly and in far more words...

I've been looking at 308's and 328's this year, and anything other than red tends to take a while to sell. There are several very nice black/tan 308 QV's that have been on the market most of the year at fair prices. Ditto for black 328's. The beautiful silver 328GTB at Naples Motorsport will be interesting - IMO it's a great looking car, even if silver isn't the "it" color for 328's.

Oddly, the nicest 308 I've ever seen was blu sera with a crema interior. Unexpectedly stunning, and if it was for sale I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

There was a green 512 for sale a while back that stole my heart and green F355 at FSF a while back that was awesome and then the green 365C that was for sale in Texas (I think) back in the early summer. Good God that was a fine looking car. Oh. Oh don’t leave out the green 456 GT a few months back!! So many beautiful green F- cars and so little green money. It’s just not fair. Blue’s ok too. **** for that matter if anyone has a hot pink TR for sale cheeeeep let me know.
