Excuse my ignorance, but I always thought that Rosso Corsa was the color of the Ferrari F1 team. But, from some angles today in Bahrain, I thought the color was more orange-ish, more like Rosso Scuderia seen on many 360CSs.

    Which is it?

The color on the F1 cars has actually been Rosso Scuderia (or a color close to it) since the second year of the Marlboro sponsorship (1998?).

This colour was chosen as it comes up much better for advertising on TV since 1998. Amazing its taken you this long to notice...

It's orangish in person so the TV cameras show it as a darker red (closer to RC) on TV.

Yup - Marlboro red. Hey - I thought cigarette advertising was banned this year. Or is that just in European Union countries? I noticed the Marlboro stickers on the Ferrari in Bahrain today.

    Cheers, MARK

So, with Marlboro sponsoring going by the wayside soon, are they likely to go back to Rosso Corsa? (Especially that Vodafone is also switching teams as well)

Actually that may not be the case. Current talk is that Marlboro may buy all the available space on the car and make the whole thing Marlboro red. They figure that the colour has enough pull to do the advertising without ever placing the name on the car. I'd love to see someone try to police that interpretation of the rules. :)

Bahrain, China and Malaysia (I think) are all "tobacco friendly" countries and the EU ban does not apply.

Now, whether or not broadcasters get grief for showing the sponsorship is another story.

Absolutely correct and the fact that red is associated with Ferrari is NOT because of Vodafone or Marlboro but it goes back to the very early years in GP racing when the color red was assigned to the Italian cars by the FIA. Another example is France = blue; England = green, Germany = white/silver (result of leaving aluminum unapinted).

I think it's funny that at the post race interview at ANY race (EU or not), Ferrari drivers were always mentioned as part of "Ferrari Scuderia Marlboro." You'd think they'd ban the verbal word, too, but I guess not. Maybe the FIA should start to freak out because of course since we all heard the name, we have to smoke 6 packs a day minimum and then get lung cancer, go to the hospital, have insurance pay for everything until the gov't steps in, etc...
