As I understand Colorado became one of the first states that allows individuals to put a freeze on their credit report and help stop identity theft. No one is allowed to check your credit or open up false accounts without your approval. My question is: where do I sign up or whom do I call to put a freeze on my credit?

This is the first I have heard of such a thing. I guess one would need to call the main 3 credit reporting companies and ask to place the freeze. I wonder if there is a down side to putting a freeze on. Please let me know what you find out.

Anyone in any state can put a fraud alert on the Credit Report...

see this link for a bunch of info...http://www.fightidentitytheft.com/flag.html

I currently have one on my credit after someone called me claiming to represent the collections department at a hospital. I checked with the hospital and they knew nothing about it.

    Hope that helps.
