Does any one know when the Colorado Grand is taking place this year? I've emailed the web site on a few occasions (about date and volunteer work) and have not received a reply for anything (all that is on the site is info on PAST events, unless my I am just totally over looking what I'm looking for).

I really want to make sure that I have the day off when they are in Vail (I'm just assuming that they are going to be in Vail again...I know, I should never assume anything).

If any of you are participating, would you mind letting a local Ferrari fanatic get a few close up photos of your machine?

    Regards

    Scott

We would like to invite you to view the Colorado Grand cars on the first day prior to beginning their 1,000 mile journey around Colorado on Sunday, September 17, 2006 in Vail. This very popular event allows us to showcase the Colorado Grand vehicles and all of the major car clubs from around Colorado that have been invited to partake in this wonderful event.

As you may know, Vail and Lionshead Mall where the previous Concours d'Non Elegance events have been held is under major reconstruction. In addition because of scheduling conflicts, the Colorado Grand will begin one day earlier to begin driving on Monday. We have decided to provide a venue on Sunday where the Colorado Grand cars can be viewed and a location for the car clubs to park near the hotel. Because of the construction and timing, the Colorado Grand cars will be located and arriving at the Vail Cascade Resort on Sunday and will be available for viewing in the public garage adjacent to the Vail Cascade resort. The car clubs will be located at the nearby Donovan Park, just west of the hotel. This will be an unusual year, so please bear with us, but we have some remarkable cars attending this year.

Again, Mercedes-Benz and Girard-Perregaux, Premier Financial and Hagerty Insurance and are returning to help the Colorado Grand to again raise more than $120,000 for Colorado charities and communities. Founded by Bob Sutherland in 1989, the Grand is recognized worldwide as the finest event of its kind, leading distinctive pre-1960 sports and racing cars through the Colorado Rockies each fall. In its 17-year history the Grand has raised more than $2 million dollars for small Colorado charities and towns. Among its beneficiaries are The Robert Sutherland Foundation (combating bipolar disorder), the Colorado State Patrol Widows and Orphans Fund, and other human-service programs. College scholarships are awarded to students from four towns where the event stops for lunch and the Grand helps these often remote communities to buy emergency medical equipment. The Colorado State Patrol provides motorcycle escorts for the event, and local residents pitch in to help serve lunches. The Grand creates an unusual synergy among automotive enthusiasts, the police, and local residents.

Pre-war entries, which are encouraged, include Alfa Romeo, Peerless, Mercedes-Benz, Delage, BMW, Bugatti, and Talbot cars. Post-war cars include Allard, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, HRG, Porsche, Lancia, Kurtis, Jaguar, even Bristol, HRG and Pegaso. Many of these are one of a kind models and major race winners and are a very unique opportunity to view. Entrants come from around the world to share these wonderful cars with us.

This very low-key, non-judged event show that will take place in Vail from 10:00 until 4:00 on Saturday, September 17th. If you and your club can join us, we will park the club cars in Donovan Park and you can either stroll up to the Vail Cascade from the park or take the shuttle that will run between to the to locations from 10:00 until 2:00.

To get to Donovan Park, simply come to Vail and take exit 176 from I-70. Take a left off the ramp around the first round about and head towards Vail. Take your first right at the next round about heading along the frontage road. From this roundabout you will be traveling 2 miles where you will take a left into the Donovan Park parking lot. You will be directed where to park and you can then walk back or take the shuttle to the Vail Cascade. Please let me know if you have any questions either prior or during the event, but really appreciate your support.
