I read somewhere on this forum that there are option for colored carbon fiber parts now. Any comment or picture with them. Only example i found is from the Range Rover. Does this make the 458 look cheap?

Can't speak for others, but I honestly think that would look terrible in a 458.

Black carbon fiber looks exotic. This looks ... inexpensive. Trying to be kind here ...

I think they mean that there's a red fiber CF weave now. It doesn't look like these photos. It's pretty tasteful as it looks like fine red lines interwoven in the CF material.

    But, I'm sure it's expensive.

The Ferrari version of the red CF is much darker. I have not seen it in person. I reserve judgement, but probably would not be my taste.

One thing to note is that it not really carbon fiber. What makes carbon fiber, carbon fiber (ie color, strength) is the strands of carbon in the weave, this is just colored fiber glass weave.

    I dont think so.
Just like NCR recently did on some of their high-end bikes, it most likely is real carbon fiber with a colored clearcoat.

    like that :

The NCR bike is the exact same way, the gelcoat isn't blue its clear They do have pigments to add but the consistency isn't that great. Its blue fiber glass mixed with carbon fiber

I work with composites quite a bit, to get the proper effect that people find visually appealing for the most part it will be a composite hyrbid.

Its easier for people to say (insert color) carbon fiber than explaining its a hyrbid. Just like Kevlar is a hybrid weave, what makes carbon fiber, carbon fiber is what the weave is comprised of which is carbon strands.

In the Atelier at Maranello, I have seen red, green, blue and white carbon fibre. I am not an expert on CF but it certainly looks exactly like regular carbon fibre but with a colour to it, it is not a carbon fibre "look" in my eyes. You can clearly see the strands and the weaving looks good. It is a new process that Ferrari has only been able to get right this year, apparently. They can make other colours for you if desired.

Unfortunately, I was too busy spec'ing my car to think about taking photos of it.

I gave the red CF serious thought for my interior but ultimately thought it would be a bit over the top. It must be said that the red coloured CF that Ferrari had in the atelier looked infinitely better than the pic the OP had in the first post. It's a burgundy colour. Nice, but ultimately a bit gimmicky for me.

Koenigsegg has made a car in purple carbon fibre

The Koenigsegg Trevita is a white-ish carbon fibre...

Unfair! I cant argue with someone who's working with composite :)

I agree 100% with you, carbon fiber only comes in black, and everything else should be mentioned as hybrid, such as Texalium.

But in regards to the NCR bike I linked, I can 99.9% tell that's it's a colored gelcoat over real carbon fiber.
I've been in contact with Hattar who closely worked with NCR to prepare this one-of bike.
When I asked them about the blue carbon fiber, they told me it was just a colored coating and that pretty much any color of the rainbow could be done.

The same blue gelcoat has been used on the carbon fiber BST wheels.
You can see the BST logo on the rear wheel, it's green instead of the original yellow.
BST wouldnt bother (and probly couldnt get a TUV and DOT certification) using hyprid composite.

Anyway, would love to see with my own eyes some Ferrari colored fiber.

Carbon is only black. Any version you see with another color, either has a tinted finish or is a hybrid cloth. Most hybrids use either Kevlar or nylon. The Kevlar can be pre-dyed or dyed via the finish.

When you see puke green carbon, that is normally the epoxy that has turned green due to age or sun damage.

In the photos shown so far, the Range Rover interior is a tinted carbon/kevlar finish. It was made by us for the tuner in question. It looks much better in person!!

I'm not sure on the 430s but I believe that 458 was shown at SEMA last year. All the CF parts in it had been sprayed with a tinted clear. They also showed a California in brown I believe. Personally, I did not think it looked that great. You could barely see the CF. But to each his own!

Attached are pics I had of some lighters we did with various tinted CF/Kevlar weaves. The yellow/black lighter is the actual color of the Kevlar. We still have a few in stock if anyone is interested.

For high-end car interiors, if you want to go CF, best to go black. Silver or colored carbon is very bright and NOT subtle at all. In my experience, its the equivalent of an off-color interior. It will instantly cut down the number of people interested in buying your car. You may like it but 95% of other people will not. Black is certainly the safe choice. I personally prefer it over any other material! But then I would say that!
