What a difference a year makes!

Amazing to think Peyton is about be a man without a team.

I say Colts go with Luck though he does sort of look like a skinny Ryan Leaf. :D

Colts made a major mistake. Manning is the franchise.

My Chargers cut Drew Brees after his shoulder surgery. Look how well that worked out for us.

PR mistake but probably not a financial one.

see also: Cardinals and Albert Pujols.

Perfect summary there. The colts and their ownership will take some hits for this one, but probably the right choice. It'll be interesting to see how Andrew Luck handles having to fill Peyton's shoes.

It's a gamble. We'll have to wait and see.

Shoulder surgery and nerve damage are two totally different things.

    Why?
Do you KNOW, I mean, KNOW he will be able to throw with the SAME touch and velocity he's had in the past? No, you don't. 28 MILLION dollars is a gamble I wouldn't take. Hasn't Joe Flacco or Mark Sanchez won more playoff games than Peyton?
Just because a guy won a SB in the past means NOTHING today.

    I absolutely agree.

Folks, when do you let a former star go?
How do you know, as team management, when the tank is dry?
Look at Jake DelHomme: did pretty well for a few years, then fell apart. I'm not
saying Peyton is Jake, but how do you know when to pull the plug?

How do you know the surrounding staff will continue to perform?
Look how well Dallas Clark did, Robert Mathis, Dwight Freeney (sic), Bob Sanders, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Joseph Addai, and a whole host of other guys that don't perform as well as they used to.

Every team needs to turn over their roster to keep young with vets like New England does, like a few teams are now doing (SF, NYG), those that don't get OLD in a hurry. Look at Minnesota, Pittsburgh. A GREAT GM will make or break you.

Peyton: 28 mill more(?) for THIS year, 20 mill more each of the next few years, and you don't even know if he will perform. Or you take Luck for a fraction of that and hope he works out, and you rebuild.

Some young teams out there are going to be GREAT in just 1-2-3 more years, Detroit is one, SD is another, StL might be one, Denver will be one when they find a QB (I like Tebow: he's not the answer), Cincy.. Atlanta, Carolina..

Even if Peyton never throws another pass in his life I'd call it a huge mistake. He turned Indy into a football town. He won a superbowl. We saw what the team does without him, he's more than just a QB. The Colts have a lot of pissed off fans right now. Peyton was one of the good guys, that's why it was a massive mistake. If they draft Luck and somehow win a superbowl next season I'd still call this a massive mistake.

If I remember correctly, it was his throwing shoulder... and he hadn't already gotten the team to two Super Bowls, and won one.

If Peyton is cut and Luck is a bust, it could cost the team millions in lost revenue. It took the Chargers YEARS to recover from the damage of Ryan Leaf, not to mention the dozens of games that didn't sell out. That's a hell of a gamble to take.

Colts Docs know more than we do.

I'd venture a guess their findings indicate the Colts *could* pay Peyton Manning a 28 Million Dollar BONUS to stand on sidelines again and have as much success as an Archie Manning team *or* cast a 28 Million Dollar Net and pull another bunch of fish from the sea and perhaps even snag a uh, Dolphin.

Reminds me of when Ferrari cut Schumacher. Injury aside, lots of parallels.

This. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't. No idea if Luck or RG3 will make it, but you know what you have with Peyton.

    I don't care either way, I'm a Giants fan :D

The Colts need to rebuild and clear the salary from Manning. If they were a better team, then this becomes a discussion.

Since the Colts are missing so many pieces, it is better for the colts and manning to move on.

If I'm a colts fan, I would rather see Luck. To tell the truth, I would rather see RG3, but don't think they will go that direction since Luck is the safer play.

Will Manning go to another team?

Probably. The money and fame are very tempting. And the sponsorships are very lucrative...often more than what the team pays.

    Show me the Benjamins.

Super Bowl victory for Andrew Luck and then a downward spiral after he leaves to go do rally driving?
