Great site. Thanks for the tip! Maybe I will be scared out of my desire for an E-Type yet. My wife sure would like that.

Why would you be scared of an e-type. I've had mine 10 years and it has been wonderful. Buy a good one and you will have no worries.

Nothing to be scared of. Just don't expect it to be the same as a 2010 vehicle. Owned one for 24 years. Lots of fun and relatively few headaches.

    Great cars I've had 3.
IMO a series 1 4.2 FHC is the car.

Because I won't be able to fix it with a pipe wrench, a flat head screwdriver, and a large rock like I can an MG or a Triumph. :)

There is a great old Peter Egan article that talked about his on-again, off-again search for an E-Type and it being very complex for an old British car. He had a buddy he called on for moral support and who was looking out for his best interest. Every time Peter got a line on a car he was interested in the buddy would do things like anonymously leave the exploded parts diagram of the E-Type rear suspension assembly on Peter's desk.

What I said was in jest, though. It's too late for me. I already have my heart set on a series 1 4.2 FHC, preferably in a darker color with tan interior. Just trying to educate myself as best I can in the meantime so I can make sure I get a great example that needs minimal work. I have too many projects as it is.

Best one upgrade I did was to put in a Mallory Unilite electronic ignition. Just see and drive as many as possible to know what a good one look and drives like. Compared to new cars they are dinosaurs to work on . . .pipe wrench, flathead scredriver and medium rock have worked well for me. I save the large rock for the TVR. Good luck in the search.

Find yourself a good mechanic. I have one of the best - Terry Lippincott - an honest man that does phenomenal work.

Already got one, although the jury is still out on how good he is. But on the plus side he already lives at my house, works for free, and has great taste in automobiles! :)

I know that shop and I also bring my car there . . .I believe it's called DIY. Perfect place to get your Jag serviced.

I am mighty handy with a wrench, but Terry would run circles around me!
