On an addition I am building onto my home one part of this addition is a pool room (single car garage in size) for pool equipment and such next to my in ground pool. It will have a double entrance door. I want to install a combination lock numeric key pad door knob. I do want to lock these doors but I do not want to have them require a key. I want to be able to go into it anytime and not have to grab a key to get in. I have done some searches and I find many combination entrance lock sets. There are some with the buttons in a standard entrance door knob and others where the numbers are in a pad above the door knob (these may require a second dead bolt hole??). My problem is I need a matched set. A set that has a matching door knob for the other door (without the numbers of course). Stainless steel is preferred. I'm looking for any advice. Has anyone bought these numeric pad entrance looks and what do you think of them etc. Suggestions? Some on eBay are inexpensive and I'm sure low quality.

    Thanks

Schlage makes very good ones. Get the type with the built in dead bolt. If the battery runs out you can still get in.

There are 2 types. One where you manually turn the lock after the combo and the other where the unit is automatic. The manual ones are better in the long run.

Take the lock and the knob and any other locks to a locksmith and tell him you want them all keyed alike. One key will work for all.

You start a topic about eating peanut butter and if it will harm you. Should I list some medical web pages you should go to? :)

Thanks. I'll need to do some research. I need to order my doors soon and I need to know if they should have the dead bolt holes pre drilled. Sounds like maybe a dead bolt hole drilled in just one door?

    Thanks

I use the schlages on a few doors in my house. It's almost 2 years and still same batteries.

web site "go keyless" I believe is where I got them - I returned a biometric one that I installed without a problem.

I have a question I'll ask my contractor Monday. Since I will have a double door I was thinking I should have 2 knobs (one on each door) although only one would work (one would have the keyless option, the other would not but would match). This way the doors look symmetrical. I can find plenty of single keyless entrance units. Maybe I should just have the one door knob on one door? That way I do not have to try and find a matching set.

If I go with a single door knob this is easy.

    Thanks

This one is more or less what I'm looking for. This one has a remote but they are available in non remote for around $70 or so. I would wonder if they last long term. It is only to keep honest people honest. Schlage might make one that is similar. Stainless would be nice.

I have a bunch of these and really like them.

I have previously has keypad deadbolts that powered the bolt but they took four batteries and I was forever changing.

This kind take just a nine volt. It unlocks the bolt and then you throw the bolt by hand.

Pad will light up if you want it to. It will beep with each input if you choose that.

You can have numerous codes simultaneously, for instance if a plumber needs to get it, you put in, say, 1234, and then you can delete it the next day all while keeping your codes secret and active.

Of course you have a regular doorknob as well.
