anyone use Comcast for HDTV?? we LOVE our DirecTV. bought a new house, had DVT installed, bought a 46" LCD. Realized they did not install the HD sat. dish. Had 'em come.... CAN'T GET A H.D. SIGNAL due to all the trees! DAMMIT! My dreams of watching the season opener F1 race on the new TV with the surround sound jiggling my intestines are being SQUASHED! Oh, the humanity!!! Got to say... since I've got the bad news, my Comcast cable internet has been spotty (usually bullet proof). We had the nimrods from Comcast try to install phone service at my other house 1.5 years ago after we finally dumped Vonage. They were at my house FIVE seperate times. I spent hours on the phone with Vonage, only to later find out Comcast did not ask for my # to be ported.... needless to say, my experience with them is not good. Any other suggestions?? Comcasts rates are also a fair amount higher that DVT.
Not quite sure how your F1 watching pleasure is affected by Comcast's lack of HDTV: F1 is not broadcast in HDTV. Never was. We have RCN cable and they're ok service wise. I'm a huge fan of HDTV and was bummed when Clinton didn't push through his original plan for the conversion. We got digital cable, HDTV and allegedly some broadcasts in HDTV, but what good is it, when these bozos from the stations (e.g. channel 7 news) don't use the correct 16:9 aspect ratio? Only stations like Discovery or the History channel have truly understood HDTV and broadcast in 16:9.
I have comcast HD and do use it frequently although I also don't think I have seen any F1 events in HD. The service is OK once installed. Like your experience, it took them about 5 trips to the house (3 of which they failed to show up for) for them to get it right. Coupled with the high speed internet, it is expensive however, I find it much more reliable than sat.
That would be a first this year. I know Bernie bought some new TV equipment, but I'm not sure we're actually going to have F1 in HDTV this year. We'll see.
speed's website may indicate that it is in HD but I can tell you for certain that comcast has no Speed HD channel, only the regular.
Why not a creative installation for your dish? I had the same problem and installed it on my garden shed. Installer said too long a cable run, he's not supposed to do it this way, blah, blah, blah. A quick conversation regarding some dead presidents and the dish is on the shed and works fine. Maybe higher on a tree trunk or something. ?
we are going to wait for the leaves to come out before resorting to something else. Besides, where I'd put it (probably on a pole) is a frozen miniature lake at this point in time...
Maybe have one of the guys from Abt Electronics stop on by & get a recommendation? I have one person in mind from there who may be able to help you... and he IS an F1 fan
