i have Pirelli PZEROs on my 91 tb . They are 2 years old and don't show much sign of wear but that is only after 6K miles. Tire Rack had the best price on them that i found

I do not know your price point, but the Yokohama line up has plenty to brag about.

I currently have a set of 16 inch Yokohama ES100 225/45/16's on the front, and 245/45/16's on the rear of a Mondial t and I am pleased.

They work as a great highway tire (even at 160 MPH), they are pretty good for a few quick track laps, they have a good sidewall "look" to them, the tread pattern is attractive, they seem to have good tread wear, nice in the rain, and they are priced well.

The Yokohama AVS sport tire is better in all area's but price. It is a great tire for your 348 right now.

Yokohama is introducing another new "Advan" line-up shortly. The Advan Neova would be perfect for the 348, as would the Advan sport. If you can wait another month you will have that many more choices.

Plan on spending around $100 to dismount, dispose of old tires, then mount & balance a set of four tires. The tires can range from $90 each for an ES100 up to $250 each for a top of the line tire.

Pirellis are my choice. I spoke to a Pirelli rep. at Cavallino Classic and he suggested buying from Tire Rack. Pirellis aren't cheap, but well worth the price. And shouldn't you put Italian tires on an Italian car?

Pay attention to the treadwear rating and heat rating.

If you want mileage then Les Schwab can sell you some 8000 series tires with a treadwear rating of 700. They'll last you at least 80,000 miles. The rubber is rock hard and don't handle (nice looking white walls though).

If you want handling then you need to shop for some SO3's with a treadwear rating of 220. They'll last you about 6 to 8,000 miles (if you're lucky) if you don't corner them too hard.

Sounds like you need some middle ground.

As said before, Yokohama has a pretty good tire. I run AVS ES100's on my 308. The treadwear rating is 280 and the heat rating is AA. I can slam them in the corners with confidence and they do very well in the Northwest rain. Great tread with rim protectors.

They rate about 3 or 4% below performance of the much higher priced SO3's on the street and about 5 to 7% below SO3's on the track because of the harder rubber compound. The heat rating is the same.

225/50-16's in the front for 89.00 ea and 245/45-16's on the rear for 93.00 ea from Tire Rack.

It's all about what kind of driving you are doing and whether you are a "brand snob" and just have to have Bridgestones or Michelins because thats what the racers use. If you aren't racing why pay 280.00 a tire then?.
