    Hi All -

I've owned my 612 for just over a year now and done 5.000 KM's on it so far. Just last week I took if for a 400km drive and i noticed that I was a bit annoyed by the amount of noice that the car made in terms of wind noices.

There appears to be some serious wind sounds coming from the right rear of the car, but i cannot find any real obvious source if i look at the car. But my ears had a serious ring in it after just 400 km's mostly around 120 km/h...

Does anybody else have some experience with this?

Also - mine's an HGTS and even when I turn off the F1 setting or the Sport setting the valves from the exhaust appear to be opening around 3000 RPM anyhow... Anyone know of a special trick?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Mark. I had some really bad wind noise from my 612 that was coming from the small rear quarter-windows on each side. While standing outside of the car and reaching inside with my arm, I could gently push outward on the window and see that the rear edge of the window seal was loose and not sealing properly. That is where all of the noise was coming from in my car, and it was pretty loud. The left and right quarter-windows were both bad. The adhesive glue that holds the window to the body had started to dissolve. I had an automotive glass shop re-seal both windows and now my car is beautifully quiet while traveling at higher speeds. The interior trim panels have to be removed to allow access to the windows, so it is a fair amount of work. Take a look at your windows...this may be your problem. Good luck!

Hi Chindit, thanks so much for your reply!. Indeed my left window is moving a bit and this is where the sound comes from…

Did you remove the trim yourself? And if so do you have any tips?

    thanks!

Hi Mark. I'm happy to hear that you found the cause of your wind noise. Re-sealing the quarter windows completely eliminated the wind noise and made my car much more comfortable to drive at higher speeds. Section M2.10 "Quarter Windows" of the Ferrari service manual details the procedure to remove/reseal the quarter windows, and refers you to section M3.04 "Passenger Compartment and Roof Upholstery", which illustrates how to remove the interior panels. You will need to remove the rear seats on the side with the faulty window seal before you can begin to remove the interior side-panel. The service manual points-out a few screws that are hidden by the rubber door seal that must be removed before you can proceed. I use various nylon trim-panel removal tools to gently pry the trim panel loose from the body of the car, being very careful not to break the plastic fasteners. You are likely to break some of the fasteners even if you are being really careful (they are fragile), so I suggest ordering additional fasteners from a reputable dealership. If you don't feel like doing all of this work, then a reputable auto interior shop should be able to remove the panels so the glass can be accessed, and they can put it all back together once the glass is done. You may want to re-seal both of the quarter windows, as this seems to be a common problem on older 612s and your right window seal will likely also fail at some point. Also, with the seats and interior panels out, that is the perfect time to address any issues with the parcel shelf and/or headliner. Good luck with your repair, Mark!
