The eyelid twitch thread inspired me to post this.

My entire life I have been far more comfortable in cooler temps than warmer (yet i grew up in miami..go figure). I keep my thermostat at 69 and i find it to be 'just right' ..visitors to my home say its freezing.

Every girlfriend ive ever had has been baffled by the fact that I will sleep in the 69 degree home with no blankets or sheets AND with a fan pointed on me ..while they shiver under 5 comforters (hey its my house and ill set the theromstat where I like it).

They also always point out that when they touch me my body is very warm even when theirs is very cold.

Again..this isnt a recent occurance...ive been like this since i was a kid.

Just wondering if anyone else is like this ?

68 (20C) is considered "standard" temperature, and lots of people keep their thermostats there in the summer. Given my druthers, I keep the A/C on pretty much full blast all the time. When I was stationed in Germany, I used to turn up for winter-time company runs through the snow in shorts and a t-shirt.

That said, a decade of working outside in Dubai summers has acclimated me to heat pertty well. I spent this past summer in the Chattanooga area, and never felt hot even when the temps were in the upper 90s. But when A/C was available, I used it.

Don't assume that living in Miami will automatically confer heat acclimation. Plenty of people here never go out in the heat, and just can't take it. Last weekend the early morning temp was only in the 90s with low humidity for a change, so I got Mrs Dubai (who's lived here longer than me) to come out for a walk. In 45 minutes she was suffering from heat exhaustion and swearing she wuold never go outside again. Meanwhile, I hardly broke a sweat. The difference: I work outside all day, she sits in an office, freezing because the A/C is too cold....

I also grew up in Dade county (Coral Galbes and Homestead) and prefer the temperature set cooler than most. I leave the A/C on about 71 or so to be comfortable. When I go skiing I am always uncomfortably hot with the full ski suit. I usually ski with the jacket unzipped to let some cooler air in. Maybe the south Florida heat has adjusted what the brain is striving for.

very much a cold lover here. anything over 25C (77F) is uncomfortable for me.

in cold weather you can always put more clothes on, and dress nicely, it's hard to look cool in summer wearing t-shirts and khakis, i'm more a black outfit with trenchcoat kinda guy.

oddly enough, i lived in the aussie outback as a kid, where summers were routinely 45-50C (113-122F) for days on end, but i don't remember it bothering me half as much as a 30C (86F) day does nowadays.

I hate the heat. Melodie can't get enough of it. We went to Cabo a couple of years ago. At 114oF outside, she was in heaven and I was misserable. To her, 85oF is 'light sweater weather'! Coupled with high humidity, I hate the heat even more and can't understand how people live with it! I like 68oF at home and if every day was 82-85oF, I'd be a happy camper.

I like my home temp to be between 70-71 degrees, at least in the bedroom. A little warmer elsewhere in the house is okay with me, up to 76f.

I don't like the heat. I like for it to be on the cool-cold side when we go to bed. My wife isn't bothered by heat or cold!

I love the heat, hate the cold. I can sleep regardless of the temp., but during the day I want to start sweating as soon as I get outside. ;)

May partially have something to do with being 5'7 and only weighing 130 pounds, I don't have that much fat to keep my warm.

i like it when it's freezing in my room. i've had my window unit in my room on full blast since i've been at school. once the winter comes, i'm the kind of guy that will leave the window open (so long as it's not snowing) and sit there with some coffee and my electric blanket on, to me that's the perfect way to live.

    Love the cold as well.
A friend of mine is the opposite ... in the car, she will set the heat at the max ... her hands are so hot I could swear she's got 150 degrees fever. And she says I'm so cold she'd think I'm dead ... LOL
Most everyone I know likes their room temperature too hot ... but I sleep with the window open in winter ... -20C doesn't bother me. If it's dry enough, I can walk around in a t-shirt by -30C.
Heat, on the other hand kills me. Anything over 28C and I'm dying.

I grew up being cold (Ireland, cold and damp) and when I first came to the US I landed at JFK in June 1985, and the temp and humidity were in the high 90s. I loved it!

What I really hate is being someplace hot, like Houston in summer, and going from 100* outside to cold-enough-to-freeze-the-balls-off-a-brass-monkey inside. Why do people assume that the hotter it is outside, the colder it should be inside?

A man after my own heart!!!!

This time of year in New England is perfect... around 70 degrees during mid-day, and down to the 50's or high 40's at night. I can leave my windows full open, and use my blanket to to keep me warm.

My parents like it HOT. Whenever I go to their place, they have the house set to 74-75 in winter and only put the AC on down to 76-78 in summer. I cant stand it. I always say to my dad "is the $100 a year you save doing this worth being uncomfortable all year long!". They sit around the house in sweaters too, it blows me away.

I like my house around 68 degrees, max.

My wife keeps our place at 77-80F and I hate it. I would also rather spend the $10-20 a month to be cooler at home. Everytime I sit or lie on something I get sweaty. I usually fall asleep with no sheets and the ceiling fan on. It's terrible to be uncomfortable in my own home - sometimes I come back to the office to work in the evenings, not only for quiet but also for the A/C.

Her parents are the same way in Fort Worth, they keep the house around 80F to save money and it's not pleasant in the summer. Even worse, their A/C unit conked out and needs replacing - and they're waiting until Christmas to see if they can get one on sale. My bro-in-law who is still there said it was 91F in the house.

Johnny, move south :) !! I had enough of the cold northeast winters (and mid/late falls too!) and have found it to be a much better climate down here.

Jeesh, we keep it around 78/77. You guys like it cold. It's funny cuz the studios I used to work in always kept it at 72, and it was perfect. Anything below 77 in my house and I'm freezing.
