Will be vacationing @ Isle of Palms, SC. What have you guys heard about the place and any recommendations for good food/things to do in the area? I assume we will spend a few days in Charleston. Thanks, MB
Isle of Palms is north of the Charleston Penninsula off of route 17. Have fun on the beach. There is a Cars and Coffee in front of the Atlanta Bread company there on Saturday mornings at 8 to about 10ish. Good restaurant local tot he area is "Basil". Just opened. Is at first right before the Isle of Palms Connector in teh Piggly Wiggly Plaza and Target. Just head stright back when turn off the connector. Going there tonight for dinner.. yummy! Downtown has hsitoric district, can go for a horse drawn carrriage ride or tour the city South of Broad by walking. Very antebellum. TONS of good restaurants downtown. Avoid Hymans seafood and probably bubba gump.. are tourist traps and many better restaurants to eat. Try Coast on John street behind rue de jean. Best seafodd in Charleston IMHO. Then stop by and grab a few croissants at Macaroon boutique, french couple owns it. Again.. yummy for next days breakfast. Many places closed on Sundays for dinner. Can go up 17 to "17 North" on side of highway, not bad food. If you decide to drive along the island to Sullivans island, you can try "Poes".. interesting place for a beer. Charleston is fantastic on the water.. perhaps head down to Wild Dunes to the harbor and rent a sea kayak and or a boat.. it's a different place on the water! Have a great time! I presume this/next weekend...
Matt, I live there and it's a great place. Morgan Creek restaurant at the Isle of Palms Marina is excellent. Only a 2 min. walk from my house. Boathouse restaurant is also good but I haven't been there in years. ACME cantina near front beach is hit and miss. As far as other places are concerned I don't get out enough. Always working. Enjoy Karl Troy PS where will you be staying?
Staying at the resort on Isle of Palms. Thanks for all the good advice, it is greatly appreciated. MB
Ate at A.W. Shucks for lunch (very good, including the raw oysters - consumed in memory of my father), and for dinner a Pizza place called Giovanni's which was also well above average (with the largest pizza's I have ever seen, and great tasting to boot). More to follow. MB
