So this might be a weird question on a Ferrari forum, and should probably go on Ricer.com but I need a cheap place to stay in the city. I'm staying from the 16th of June to the 20th of June.

The reason I need to find a deal is because my client can't pay my travel expenses, so the more I spend on a room the less money I make. The place where I'll be working is near Hudson and Laight St. so something around there would be great. I really want to spend very little, but also don't want to find myself in a scummy residential hotel that I find on the net. Something in Jersey City might be good, if it's not too much hassle to get into the city. Sorry for my lack of knowledge of NYC, the last time I was there I was 8.

One more thing, is Hudson and Laight an industrial neighborhood? I see it's right near the Holland Tunnel.

Thanks for any suggestions, I appreciate it. -hudson

What do you call cheap? $50/night, $100/night, $200/night

Something for $100 would be great, I was thinking I'd have to spend at least $150. Thanks for the help!

I know money is important here, but at the same time, you really should see if you can find a deal in Manhattan. After all, if it's been a long time since you were in NY and maybe a long time until you come back, you might as well bite the bullet and allocate a portion of your hotel costs to the "vacation" portion of your trip. There are lots of chi chi and expensive places downtown near where you'll be, but I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't find something affordable and still in a hip area, say east of Broadway or Lafayette or maybe up in Chelsea.

Hudson and Laight is just below Canal and therefore just into the western portion of Tribeca, but also very, very close to all that is going on in Soho as well. That specific area isn't too scenic as it is sort of warehousey with some office and expensive condo conversions but you are literally only 2-3 blocks away from fun places to be.

Unfortunately since I'm in the NYC area and have either lived in the city or within commuting distance while I've been here, I don't have any good suggestions about hotels.

Since you'll mainly be working, that will mean that you should make the most of your free time and not spend any more time than necessary getting from your hotel to where the action is.

    Just MHO.

This is from Hotels.com at $135/night for the 4 nights that you will be staying. If you don't mind a shared bathroom (read the reviews) it might not be a bad choice. Don't have any personal experience.

Check out Priceline or Hotwire. I stayed at the Westin Times sq. property in March for around 160ish. For what i spent it was great. Priceline lets you pick the part of the city you wish to stay in which is nice. Believe Hotwire is similair. Always pick from the highest star rating system they use. I think thats 4 star's on Priceline. ( thats the highest it goes there, dont laugh) This way your not slumming it.

    Have fun...

Those are the websites I was going to send you to. There are PLENTY of choices on there. Hotels.com is my first choice though. They had a lot of things meeting your criteria under $150 a night.

thanks everyone, I now have some great options. NYC, here I come! Too bad I can't take my car cross country.

Again, I really appreciate the effort, 'cause a Cali boy like myself would be lost in the metropolis of all metropolis'. Ferrarichat kicks.

Found an article in NY Magazine on hotels < $150 in the city. The article's a bit dated, but the list should still be helpful. NY Mag is pretty much the ultimate resource for NYC anything. I read it religiously.

I remember going AWOL from boarding school in Westchester when I was 15. I was with my then-girlfriend and we headed directly to the city. We walked around all day; I took her to dinner at some sleazy steak house in Times Square. When nightfall brought with it an uncomfortable chill, it was time to find a place to sleep. I found a wonderful place near Port Authority where the front desk was adorned with bullet-proof glass; for some strange reason, the extremely small lobby was absent of a bell hop. My girlfriend wanted to wait outside while I went in and checked for room availability. The clerk wouldn't rent me a room until she came inside. He couldn't understand why I wanted a room for the whole night instead of just an hour; and as naive as I was, I couldn't understand why he would rent rooms for just an hour at a time. He rented us the room; it was $40 for the night. The bathroom was down the hall and the toilet was cleaner than the shower. We took a bus the next day to Connecticut, and then hitchhiked to Pennsylvania. I spent a week in isolation after we were finally brought back to school. That was back when Times Square wasn't filled with a bunch of Disney lights.; feels like so long ago.

Check Times Square; that hotel might still be there.
