Currently own a 2004 575 F1. Love the car. Have a 599 on order. Those that have had both, can you please report: I asssume given the simailar torque/horsepower characteristics up to mid-range, and similar gear ratios, that the acceleration "feels" comparable up to 4000 rpm, 599 is somewhat better from 4000-6000 rpm, and 599 is dramatically stronger above 6000 rpm. Is this correct? I find the 575 excellent for having fun around uncrowded city streets, because it is fairly quiet, and very strong in the low to mid-range, so I can have fun accelerating away from stoplights, up to say 60 miles per hour, in the first three gears. It does NOT have to be revved up to the redline for it to be rewarding. Is the 599 similar, or does it only really shine when revved all the way beyond 6000 rpm? I also have a Porsche GT3, ,and it is only satisfying to drive if revved all the way to 8400 rpm, and driven very hard (at highly illegal speeds), at all times Thanks
I had a 575, currently have a Superamerica with HGTC package and a 599 I need to begin with the fact that I love the SA and really enjoy having a big V12 GT car under my control. The 599 however is simply the best car Ferrari have ever built. I do not make that statement lightly. I drive it every day as my daily transportation and it performs flawlessly in urban and freeway traffic. It bears absolutely no resemblance to the SA/575 feel, especially under hard acceleration. The difference between a 250ms shift and a 100ms shift is literally night and day. The 599 looks, feels and is much more sports car than GT and performs that way when driven hard. The magnetic suspension keeps the car planted absolutely square and I do not get the same sense of weight and volume with the 599 as I get with the SA. The real surprise is in regular driving where the car feels absolutely suited to a street environment. The car is so well balanced I never feel out of sorts in it. It fits the road better than the SA and the visibility is almost perfect. The trunk takes my clubs with ease and that for me makes it a perfect daily driver, that will just happen to smoke anybody who gets any ideas about beating it. It is much easier to go from urban lope to frenetic pace than in the SA and I rarely push the SA too far suddenly, as the weight is very apparent.
Not 'til he's done dry humping....... Like that famous line..... "When I want your opinion I'll give it to you".
Joe I went from a 2004 575 F1 (FHP) to a 599 and have another 599 on order, due in April. I must admit I struggled a little with the cost difference, 575's are such good Cars and great value these days. A few comments I'd make Build quality on 599 seems a considerable leap forward, Seats are much more supportive and comfortable, overall acceleration in the 599 feels much quicker, gear change and pull away in the 599 is smoother and more fluid (although it's by no means poor in the 575) and it feels more docile around town, I always found the 575 itching to go faster whereas the 599 is happier to dawdle in traffic. The 599 is a more focused sports car making the ride a little harsher and boy does it use fuel, even compared to the 575, the 599's rear 3/4 view which is far poorer from inside the car. One thing I've noticed is I get noticed (well the 599 does) much more than I did in the 575
599 benefits from huge advances in electronics. It is also a full aluminium monocoque. 599 engine is a major generation ahead of 575. 599 CCB brakes are in a different league from 575 HGTC. 599 made 575 a classic car. Gap is that large. 575 is still a fantastic car and deadly beautiful. It has the bad luck of being the break point to the next millenium. My personal opinion is that in 25 years time the 550 will be more coveted than the 575 for the stick
Thanks fo the feedback. Very helpful. I like monster performance, so it sounds like I should go ahead and take delivery of the 599!
