Hi Guys. I have a non-F-car questions and am in need of some advice form all the NJ/NYC crew. We currently live in the Morristown area and my wife has taken a 1 year assignment at Montefiore Medical Center, deep in the Bronx. I have been racking my brain trying to find a decent way for her to get there during this gig. So far: Option 1 - NJ transit train to Penn St then subway to Monty, but that 2 hours plus each way. I cant let the lady go though that. Option 2 - drive it. Without traffic it's actually not a bad ride, but that GWB, is there any good time to be on that f*** thing. I am afraid she wil be on that for 2 hours anyway. Am I too concerned over that ? Option 3 - Leave a car in a garage near Penn station and have her drive the last part. Too nutty ? Any advice from the seasoned commuter would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Oleh
id personally would choose for her to drive herself to work. no point taken a train to penn, then spending another hour on the subway.
Her hours are basically 9 - 5. One more option is to see if she can arrive a little early and then leave a little early, thus perhaps by-passing the rush-hour nightmare, but that remains to be seen. Thx, oleh
AS GREG SAID, THE WORST HOURS.. BEST DIRECT ROUTE FROM YOU BY CAR 287 TO 80 TO THE GWB TO THE CROSS BRONX AND THEN UPTOWN BUT THE TRAFFIC AND RUSH HOURS PLAY A PART.. MAYBE SHE CAN GET 7.00AM TO 3PM HOURS...BETTER TRAVEL TIME BRUCE
Unless she owns the hospital, I'd suggest a new gig near home. Seriously, though, unless she has the luxury to drive before/after traffic, there's not much you can do except suck it up and take the train. I moved to NYC when my commute from LI became unbearable...
ahh, since this is not a "yes" or "no" question, let me be more helpful here its picking poison, lose lose situation. you do NOT want to drive during this hours, and the 2 hrs train/subway transit sux too. either get another job, or rent a place near her work.
d1ckhead, thats because it was not a yes or no answer. if he had asked "is it drivable to bronx during rush hour". i would've simpy said "no". which would be short and precise answer that sincerely carried best of my knowledge to the question.
I actually financed Montefiore Medical Center with my prior job, and I'm very familiar with the location where the hospital is located at. I recall that the hospital ran a shuttle bus to either Grand Central/Port Authority or Penn (or a loop of all 3). But they may have stopped this due to budget constraints. If that's the case, I would NOT take Mass Transit not b/c where the hospital is located at, but b/c of the area the train goes through. I know it's a pain to get across the GWB, but if she takes the local route to the GWB approach, it usually will shave 20 min off the cross. And once she's off the GWB, she's traveling Northbound on Henry Hudson instead of Southbound (where all the traffic is at). Also, don't take the Cross Bronx. Take Henry Hudsn North to the Mosholu Pkway; it's a lot quicker. So driving to Montefiore is not too bad. I used to live on the Upper Westside and it takes less than 10 minutes to get to Monte during rush hour traffic.
lol. fchat, ec, vaginaz, cokz, mookz, toolz, nerds, playaz, baller...... everything is here in fchat forum! 2hour train ride? or 2 hour car ride? u choose id choose car ride.
Guys: Thanks for the insight and advice. I really appreciate it. As in life, there are no easy answers. Pchop, I concur on the HH over Cross-Bronx. I discovered this during my "scouting runs". Sure would be great if that shuttle service kicked back in !! Thanks again, Oleh
Definitely drive it. I did the commute into NYC on the Gladstone line for long enough to know I didn't want to commute 3 hours a day. Going all the way up to the Bronx would make it around 4 hours a day.
It's a hospital. Ask them about buying the "naming rights" to the shuttle and write the check. The "Oleh Shuttle Bus" is only a signature away...
No can't do. The Shuttle Bus is already named "Rene Shuttle Bu"...they left of the last "s" cause they ran out of money.
