I went to buy a FChat ballcap this morning. The $16.95 price is in line, no problem with that. When I went to check out, the shipping was $9.92. If I ship from my UPS daily pick-up, residential location UPS Ground to the Dallas area, the cost is $4.10. This would be a 1 pound min rate from UPS. That's a $5.82 profit.

Can I afford $26.87 for a hat? YES! Will I pay above the actual rate for shipping? NO. Why? Members (IMO) should not be included in the profit part of shipping! Will I pay $5? YES!

Rob, if you are factoring the price of the box and you are a daily shipper (Which you should be), UPS will give you both small (8x6x3") and medium (12x10x3") shipping boxes, as many as you need for free. I use about 2000 of these for my business each year and I it saves big time. I also use these boxes for USPO mailings. If you are not a daily shipper, hell, I'll mail you the boxes for free! Ship a hat via the USPO and the price will be about half of UPS!

Just my gripe for the day! :)

There is little markup, if any, on the products so throwing them a bone should not be that big of a deal. Also with the shipping, comes the box it comes in and the tape used to close it.

Focus on getting rid of Ashley Simpson rather then $5.

He probably isnt marking up the shipping. IMO shipping something 1lb ground with residential delivery for $4.10 is BS unless you're on the super duper discount plan - just my experience.

Let's try it out.... let's say Rob is in Plano, TX and you are in Sonora, CA and he's shipping a 1lb package to your home. Hold on while I go to UPS.com

    Ok, UPS quotes $10.41. For GROUND. That's a 1lb package. That's straight from UPS.com.

Their prices have gone up a lot lately. I shipped a 1lb package from Bostom to Maine (about 100 miles) and it was over $9. So, IMO the complaint is unwarranted. UPS prices have risen sharply and it seems I never pay less than $5 for a shipment anymore. Ever.

Of course, Rob isn't the one actually making, selling, pricing nor shipping the items, so you're directing your ire in the wrong direction

PETE. IT SHIPS FROM PA!!! MY LOCATION.

Did you go all the way to checkout? Notice that is says ESTIMATED freight as you go along. It should wind it down to the proper rate when you go to checkout. don't forget to include the weight of the box.

I'm charging based on my UPS rates, provided to me by the Prostores website software.

I have not checked every rate, to every zone, in the entire USA for every item, but the ones I did check seemed ok.

One glitch it seems to have is that doesn't differentiate between residential and commercial rates. I've talked to the software guys about it, and they will work on it, it's charging residential to every location.

    PETER, PLEASE TRY AGAIN.

Rob does not work on this site. It's my baby.

Now, as a show of good faith, I'll be happy to ship you a hat, freight free.

Just put in your order. :D

Shipping via USPS Priority Mail is $4.10 for items less than a pound. Perhaps this is what he meant by $4.10.

Priority mail isn't an option until the sofware guys offer multiple shipping options. Right now, I have to pick one, and UPS is my best bet.

I'm working on getting a discount from UPS, and when I do, I'll pass it along.

However, UPS includes insurace to $100, and that cust costs a little. It also provides tracking and delivery receipts at no extra charge, which helps me out.

Nope, that was my UPS Worldship rate. It's actually high Vs a business two miles away that is zoned 'business' for their daily pickups who gets about 9% off my rates! I'm always after my regional UPS guy for better rates, but I'm a small fish.

I'll take you up on your offer! I'll order the hat and I don't mind paying fair freight. I've been to too many trade shows that always seem to have the side-seminars on improving profit margins on frieght. There is fair adders to cover labor, but far too many businesses take advantage of extra charges that never get questioned!

If the costs were pure pass-along, you would not have to have the following discaimer on the bottom of the order page!

NOTICE: These fees do not necessarily represent rates charged by UPS and may include handling charges levied by FerrariChat.com Stuff

Ps: I'm sure you will just the hat for me!

The software allows for discounts or surcharges on freight. I'm not doing either. I also am not charging to box, wrap, pack or handle. I'm not charging for the packaging (around a buck an order).

It's the COST OF UPS TO ME, PASSED TO YOU.

I ***** on Ebay every time the shipper charges 3X the actual cost, without disclosing it. I think that's BS too.

The disclaimer is stock for the site, required I'm sure by UPS to avoid their getting sued by someone.

Ya know Pete, I love ya', but you sure are a ball buster. :D

Wait, so Dave is the one profiteering on shipping?

Dave, I knew you had a republican deep down screaming to get out! :)

P.S. Hasn't UPS upped their residential surcharge? I believe it is now $2.50 instead of the previous $2. They also recently upped their fuel surchage a *lot*. They used to be cheaper than US postal but now USPS is a lot less than the prices I've seen at UPS.

UH OH. You've got me now. Actually, since starting this site, I've registered Republican and will be adding a ten dollar surcharge to all orders from anyone who is not able to prove they voted for Reagan twice and Bush three times. :D

Fuel surcharge is 4 or 5% right now, I think. I always thought the residential charge was a sliding scale. Now I'm going to have to check that. And somehow, on our bill, UPS always seems to catch those residential/commercial mistakes, so there's no sneaking one past them.
