My name's David Wiernicki, and I'm the president of Force Dynamics, a small company based in upstate New York (near Watkins Glen and Ithaca). We're considering sponsoring FerrariChat, so Rob has given me permission to make one commercial post to gauge interest.

I've been lurking around ferrarichat for a few weeks now, and despite my being a Porsche owner (a long-in-the-tooth 944 at that!) I enjoy the conversation very much. It's nice to see a sports car discussion board that doesn't devolve into "my car is faster than your car" flame wars!

So, what do we do? We make motion simulators designed from the ground up for racing simulation. They're not toys, arcade games, or souped-up plywood boxes with Playstations stuck in the back.

The founders of Force Dynamics have been racing for more than 25 years - competing in everything from Formula Ford to GT1 in series from SCCA regionals to the FIA world sportscar championship and IMSA. We design racing simulators because we're obsessed with racing, and because in the last few years, racing simulation software commonly available on the PC has achieved an incredible level of fidelity - from detailed chassis modeling to tire heat to rubber build up on the racing line, everything is there.

The only thing left out was the ability to actually feel the car. Our racing simulators let you feel everything you can feel in a real car - you're thrown against your belts as you brake, pushed to the side as you corner, and jolted upward as you clip kerbs. More important is our machine's finesse: you can feel tiny rises, dips, and camber shifts in the track, minute chassis adjustments, and every reaction of the car as it's pulled through a corner - and the response is instantaneous. You can truly drive a simulated car by the seat of your pants in our hardware.

The other unique aspect to our simulator is its flexibility in software - it's designed as a peripheral rather than an all-inclusive system. We currently support two high quality racing simulations which offer hundreds of car and track combinations between them, and plan on adding support for at least six more in the next year - which, by the way, will include quite a few Ferraris, of course!

I've attached a render of the production version of our launch product - the 301 - and a screenshot of a video we're hosting on our web site.

Pricing for a 301 system including controls and a 50" DLP projection display will start around $25000.

You can see our web site at http://www.force-dynamics.com, and our video of our engineering prototype (which is highly recommended to get a feel for the quality of our hardware) at http://www.force-dynamics.com/video.shtml.

I appreciate your taking the time to read this - if you're interested in the 301, or if you'd be interested in other kinds of high quality racing simulation gear, let me know!

Welcome to FChat. I hope others on the site find this as interesting as I. I'll send your url to some racers in Seattle.

I've been wanting/waiting for someone to make a consumer-level system like this available for a *long* time. Tired of throwing money at the latest & greatest wheel/pedal assemblies, only to reconfirm that it's the sensory input I need that's lacking. Also tired of having more joystick-gifted kids whip my butt at the driving games, when I *know* I could clean their clocks on a real track! :)

I'm definitely interested in these units, although the price point is higher than I'm ready for right now. (After all, I'm still recovering from the shock of putting out the cash for a 360. I should be OK once it actually gets here, though.)

Once my wife recovers from the 360 buy, this might be something to get.

Boy, if you guys hadn't been buying all those 360s, we'd really be in business! ;)

If you have any questions, let me know!

Sounds really cool. Can you program it so that I get to kick Art's butt on the track?

If he's not in a simulator, you'll definitely have an advantage - and if he is, whether or not you kick his butt will be entirely up to how gentlemanly your driving is! And if you're talking about real life driving, while we don't have any empirical evidence to show that seat time in the simulator will improve real life lap times, it's very likely. Several real life race drivers have said that the experience is strikingly similar, and there's a reason that the military uses motion simulators to train pilots, and our hardware is as good or better than military simulators.

If you want us to ensure that you win at all costs, however, there will be an extra charge. If Art were to request the same service as well, those charges could get very high indeed! :D

(Hopefully my answering questions in this thread doesn't violate the one-commercial-post rule; if so, say the word and I'll clam up!)

Frankly, I meant kicking Art's butt in the simulator. I'm pretty sure that I cant' do it at on a real track. :)

ps It would have to include a vid of Art throwing a temper tantrum after I blow him into the weeds.

pps I'd actually pay to see a dual between Maranelloman and Art in side-by-side simulators!

There's always a cart out here for you, if you let me know you're coming out. Having said that, I wouldn't mind a little contest, but the first lap has to be on a bike. I've got a reasonably fast GSXR1000 (2004), Rapp used it at Daytona this year. Say Sears Point one lap on the bike, one lap on the cart?

Remember, I'm a lot older than you, that should give you the advantage.

All that system needs is huge chunk of concrete suspended over your head, and if you hit the wall it drops on you. Looks like a fun toy/trainer, but without the fear of death it's still just a toy. (I'd buy one in a second if I had the means BTW!)

Have you thought of engaging a few more senses?
The smell of exaust /gas oil and burning rubber. What about quality sound reinforcement? Do you have suitable and appropriate sound reinforcement?
Have you thought of renting them out at fairs, expo's or private parties?
What about car shows or events at dealers?
Could even simulate other experiances like fighter jets.
I'd drop $20.00 for a ride in this thing.
