Hope I don't step on anyone's toes but out of all the car-related message boards I frequent, F-Chat has the most active Rocky Mountain forum. Here's my question:

Has anyone ever dealt with a Ghent Motors in Greeley, Colorado? They have a car on their site that I am seriously considering buying. I'm waiting to here back from their "internet mananger/sales/whatever guy" to see if the car is still available. Since it's Sunday, I won't get a reply till tommorrow. But I was curious if anyone here has ever purchased an car from them or know someone who has. Any good/bad experience is helpful. I'm going to be stepping out on a limb if I purchase this car since basically I will be buying it sight-unseen and making a 600+mile trip just to buy it! Then I have to (read: get to enjoy) drive it home to Boise, Idaho!

    BTW the car is a 1992 3000gt VR-4 black/grey with a mere 62k miles on it!! :)

    Hi Andrew,

Haven't heard of the dealership but do know the VR4's well if you'd like for me to have a look as a favor to you. I am sure you know well the issues those cars can bring, but they are a super duper bang for the buck!

    Ciao- Nick

    Nick,

If you'd like to, then please be my guest! I can't really offer you anything for doing it, other than my sincere and deepest gratitude.

I know the VR-4's are a bit tempermental in the gearbox and have a couple of other issues. Anything else I should be aware of?

The more I think about it, I'm not sure if the timing is right. I still am in school for three more weeks and the car is for sale now. So that's kind of a monkey wrench in my plans. Finances should be a-ok provided I can get a loan that's a tad longer than what the 24-month loan my credit union can provide. They're quite finicky about auto loans. Lot's of BS to deal with. But that's for another time. I'm putting 25% down and have literally perfect credit so hopefully I can find some institution to lend me a hand. Sorry for the weak pun. Oh well, time will tell. Like I said in my first post I haven't heard back from any rep so hopefully the car is still for sale and they're closed today!

Oh, and I bet this would help! http://www.ghentmotors.com/en_US/

Hello - I bought a Suburban from them several years ago and had a good experience. They also helped me with some fairly minor issues on a
'70 Z-28 I had. I'm assuming they have the same ownership now as they did in about 1995. Good reputation here in town and they seem to be very competitive on price. Haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Having said that, the price of any repair is exhorbitant. That's how car manufacturers and dealers make money. I'd buy an extended warranty, if one is available. Good luck!

Nice car at a good price.

The dealership is all the way the hell in Greeley though, about 60mi from where I am. I am going there this week to visit my grandmother who is not well these days, but please make sure you have all of your finances and stuff together first.

I'll have to drag my girlfriend and brother to the dealership with me, so...

No need for anything but gratitude, just pay it forward.

    Nick

Well Nick, hold up, I got some bad news. A sales rep from the dealership just called me and said the car had sold. Their internet manager "left" so they're a bit behind. Looks like it wasn't meant to be. Oh well, there will be others. Sometimes the hunt is more exciting than the catch.

But thank you very much for your offer, that was most kind of you. I wish your grandmother well!

    Thanks again,
