Do PPIs typically include these tests?

    Thanks!

Only if you ask for it. Every PPI I had done quoted a price with and without the compression test. IIRC circa 4 hours $600 for the PPI and $200 more for the compression test. Varies from shop to shop of course.

I was told the Ferrari's are so delicate that if it starts quick, idles well and doesn't hiccup when accelerating; compression is okay???? If compression is low...they will hardly run. True??

Asking for either will cost you differently. Doing a leak down is a time consuming job. A compression test is easier but not as accurate.

Every shop has their own idea on how to do a PPI. Some will not touch the engine at all for not wanting the responsibility of doing any potential damage in removing the plugs. This is particularly true on older cars where you can have a plug seized or damage the plug wires in removing them.

In these cases, they will do only a visual inspection and perhaps driving/running inspection for leaks and to make sure everything is working (A/C, electrics, brakes, etc). They should also look for any fault codes or do a gas analysis for older cars without boxes.

If you specifically want a leak down or compression test, you should request it when you book it. They may say "no". Also, good and experienced shop will ask you want you are looking to get out of the PPI and give you options and costs.

    Sorry... sounds like BS.

The only way to know what the compression is will be to hook up a gauge to it. Everything else is just a guess, "witchcraft", or buffalo chips.
