When I bought my car a PPI wasn't possible due to the remote location, so I decided to purchase it based on a test drive and my own assessment. I knew the car ran strong, so I crossed my fingers and went ahead.

Today curiosity finally got the better of me, and I decided to do a compression test. I hadn't done one previously because I was a little concerned I might find a problem and prove myself a fool for not buying a car with an independent expert PPI. Well, I dodged that bullet. Everything looked good. I did the test with a warm engine (~30 minutes cool down before test). Cranked the engine with WOT (coils unplugged and fuel pump fuse removed) about 8 turns per cylinder. Results were all between 182 psi and 185 psi. :D

Needless to say I was pleased. The place I got it from did provide compression numbers, but I never trusted then as I thought they were too close to be realistic. Looks like they were legitimate after all.

So, it is possible to be within 2% of each other and actually be realistic, according to your numbers. That is good to know.

The numbers I got from the PO were lower (due to different gauge, procedure or conditions), but had a similarly tight range which lead me to be skeptical. He reported 141, 141, 144, 142, 141, 142, 141, 141.
