I'm finishing up my Sanden compressor replacement, my old Sanden clutch had two wires, a power and a ground. The new compressor only has one wire so I deleted the ground. I started the car yesterday and the clutch wouldn't engage, I jumped a ground to the compressor and it engaged so I added back the ground. Now it does nothing. It seems I have no power to the clutch actuating wire. I checked what I think is the correct fuse (#5) and it's fine. Where else should I look? Is a relay involved with clutch actuation? Another fuse? I'm still trying to locate a wiring diagram. The car is an 85 gts euro. Thx

First guess is that the ground you added back is not grounding sense the jumper worked

Also check your temperature control knob so the signal to cool is sent.

Is the system charged? The flow switch needs to sense flow before it will power the compressor. There are switches on the high and low side.

Put a meter on the wire and see if u have the 12volts to earth with ac selected on.
Other thing to look at is the pressure switch on top of the filter/drier. This protects the compressor against loss of gas , you can try taking 1 wire off or short the two together( cant remember which) -if the compressor clutch has power then the system needs gas. I am talking from experience from the mondial so should be similar

As above but also check the fuse just in case you accidentally grounded the 12v feed..

When I first got my 328 everything worked except the A/C..
I had pressure so I knew it was LP related, checked the fuse and it was ok..previous owner had removed the A/C relay for some unknown reason..replaced the relay and it was good to go..

Unfortunately years later I have a leak somewhere (possibly in the compressor shaft seal) but I haven't been bothered to trace it back and repair it,mainly because I have had very little need to use it.

If you need to get it topped up and you can get f12 all well and good but if you need to use 134 (i think that is the number) you will have to change the flexy hoses as the 134 slowly seeps through them and you lose the charge. Not an easy job to do the hoses

    Yeah Mike l know,l'm an air con tech,albeit a lazy one😂
R12 is no longer available down under, although some people still have it,,
I would never use R134a in it either, prefer to use the propane based like Hychill minus 30 or the like..
Changing the hoses is one of those jobs that I'm really not looking forward to doing as well..
One day I'll get around to it though, but refreshing my suspension is more of a priority, and I've had those parts for 2 years now sitting in boxes..

Update: I ended up changing a relay, checking fuses, etc. and I would indicate power via a multi-meter but clutch still wouldn't engage. Just for kicks I decided to replace the spade connector for the clutch and surprise! it engaged and worked fine. All that troubleshooting over a stupid spade connector. Anyway, all charged up and cool now.
