Hi all, I have an ACER laptop which has S*** the bed. I now get the blue screen of death with the comment 'UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME'. I cannot restore, boot in safe mode or anything. It has Windows Vista Basic on it. Can anyone tell me if everthing I have on it is lost? Can I recover? If not, how much does Windows XP cost to buy myself and install? Cheers
Can't restore from the recovery partitions? I had to "pick" the right one out of the half-dozen options I was granted, and then it booted up fine. If that fails, can you repair from your recovery DVD (if you have one), or re-install from scratch? Worst case - your hardware is toast, and no OS, not even XP, is going to do it for you. likely more of a hardware issue than o/s, but, well - good luck!
You could try the Ultimate Boot CD for data recovery, I'm not sure how well it works with Vista though, never tried it.
Not looking too good. http://www.google.com/search?q=vista+UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME%27&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a Look for clues to the answer and weed through some of these to find the solutions.
i know you're gonna hate me for suggesting this but... www.apple.com someone had to do it, sooner or later.
