I just reinstalled windows on my computer and have been having this weird problem ever since. Every website I go to if I try and save a picture (even if I look at its properties and see what type of file it is) it will only allow me to save it as a .bmp file. It makes browsing for and saving Ferrari pictures a real ***** to have to convert every picture I download. It does it on Fchat, ebay, and every other website I ever go to. When I right click on the image to save it, it doesnt give me a save target as option, only save picture as.

    Any ideas?

    Never had the problem before...

Your temp internet folder is probably full. Go to Tools -> Internet Options and delete the temporary internet files and see if that fixes anything.

Yep, I know this annoying little quirk. One way to get around it, to produce a .jpg image--instead of saving it, choose the "email" feature. It will produce an email with the picture already as an attachment, and as a .jpg. Then right click on the attachment, and save it that way. It's the only way I know to get it to .jpg without doing a conversion in a graphics program.

Does it really lock up or is it just taking a while? The deletion won't be instant if there are a lot of files. I suppose it could take several minutes in certain cases.

true the temp directory is full if it starts to feed you files as bmp instead of the proper extension, it may take a while so i don't know if it is lock up or it is actually dumping your files.. set the browser to check for new versions everyvisit to the page, set the space allotment for the cache/temp files to something pretty low, like a meg or two.

A defrag may help a bit too.

Ok what you need to do is this
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Clean up
Once the application opens up click OK -> then Yes
Sit tight for about a minute or so and watch some TV
    Files erased, problem solved.

There is a setting in IE that allows it to empty your temp internet files when you close the browser. Goto Tools>Internet Options>Advanced Tab>scroll sown to the security section and place a check mark in "Empty temp internet files when browser is closed" (some wording like that)
