    Guys

Just looking for your thoughts, I have the chance to purchase a 1985 328gts which has covered a warranted 40,000kms. The car was part of a collection for the best part of 12 years, the last 4 years have been with a private owner. The bonus for this car is that it is virtually brand new to look at. The engine and engine bay look NEW... its just amazing, and this is throughout the entire car. The car has not be restored. no paint work, original tyres! carpets like new, it really is a time warp.. The present owner drives the car every other week in the dry to keep everything turned over...

So would you buy a 85 car in this condition over a later model, say 87/88 in ok condition for the same money?

    Any input would be appreciated

Yes! Always buy condition over age.

328 or 308? Maybe in the UK there are late calendar 1985 cars that are 328s?

They're all old. I'd get the one that is in the best condition and has had all the perishable bits (rubber fuel lines, brake lines, tires,...) replaced on schedule. An '88 is basically just as old as an '85.

With 328's I would buy condition. They were great cars from the outset so year does not matter as much as some models.

Agreed 100%. The ONLY thing that truly differentiates a 328 is, if it is a 88.5 and I think the only thing they have are ABS brakes. I could be wrong.....

With Ferraris though it is .......condition over year ALWAYS.

You would spend less in the end on a 328 that is in GREAT condition than even a 348/355 in rotten condition. ALL it takes is one engine rebuild to even the score between those two cars......

With that being said, are you SURE you have a 328?? Is it an '86?? Didn't think they made ANY 328s in '85. Even in Euro models. The monetary difference between an '85 308 and an '86 328 in similar condition would still be a good $5000. At least. Make sure it is a 328.....

Condition, but that said, there are some pretty cool basket cases in the vintage section right now...

True for the F355, maybe not for the 348 anymore.

There are Euro '85 328's in the US, I just finished a major on one last week.

I remember working on the fuse box of the first Euro TR in the US at the 1985 Annual Meet at Watkins Glen for the fellow from North Carolina who owned it. Couldn't get one of the headlight motors up!

    Ahhh, the good old days...

I think he may be saying that the cat is out of the bag on the 348 -- that is, that the 348 has proven itself not to be the disastrous automobile that many 348-haters think it is.

Or he may be saying that the cat is out of the bag on the 355... ok, I'll stop right there :)

I think Jon is saying you can buy a very nice 348 for 328 money not just poor ones, while you still would only get a very poor 355 for 328 money if you could find one at all. But, I'm sure he'll clarify.

Thanks for the info on the year code... Yes the car is most definately a 328gts... I also own an 87 328 gts!!!! Its just that this car is in "as new" condition and I can buy it for £20.000 I would then sell my car which is nice but not in the same league as the 85 car!

Does any one know how many 85 328's were made? and were they identical upto 88.5 (pre ABS)?

    thanks for all the input!!!

    Rod

So the 10th spot on the VIN is an F? How about that, an 85 328.
