What??? OK. Girlfriend has slightly degraded hearing. I don't. More the opposite. I just can't take loud TV/Movies/noise. Unless it smells like CAM2 and has carbs... For both general watching and movies, I want to set up a set of speakers closer to and aimed right at her instead of blasting the whole living room. Hopefully with their own volume control allowing me to keep the overall TV volume reasonable. Does anything like this exist without being earphones? Am I explaining it correctly?
What about those headphones you see on late night TV commercials that give you bionic hearing and let your partner sleep while you watch TV on the lowest volume? 😃
Silly posts aside... Honestly not sure that there's a *good* solution for this... just an idea... If you have an audio/video receiver that has 2 *zones* (the second zone would normally be situated in a separate area, like a different room, or outside) that supports outputting the same audio to zone 1 and zone 2 simultaneously... you could *potentially* using directional speakers to create individual zones in the same room with their own volume controls. Using a large amount of sound dampening materials in the room could reduce the incidence of crosstalk and such, but you'll never get rid of audio sourced from her side completely. However, there are going to be significant drawbacks to this type of setup... not the least of which being that the seating positions are going to have to be quite separated from each other... might make doing "stuff" with the girlfriend difficult. The other issue is that, in general, speakers designed for home theater use are generally designed to broadcast the side in a wide area, in order to get maximum coverage. In this type of setup, you would be trying to do the exact opposite.
About 15 years ago, I was in the lobby of a internet streaming music company - and they had this setup. I don't know what it's called, but I'll just describe it. Above each of the lobby chairs, it looked like a typical lamp, but upon closer look - inside was a speaker pointing up, and the lamp was shape like a parabola(small umbrella). So of course - the speaker is the focus of the parabola, thereby enabling a sound cone directly down toward the listener seated. It was pretty neat because as a bystander 1 or 2 feet away, you could barely hear the music until you step into the "sound cone". With that solution, you are pretty fixed. You need to be right under the cone.
I first thought, but then... I do get into modes, especially Sunday evenings, where my mind needs to shut down and I cannot take TV/movies/radio. Just need silence. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's terrifying to watch a TV show without captions and only understand one word. Get your GF to an Audiologist, have her hearing tested (it's free) & get her a hearing aid or two. Pay by cash or CC & be done with it, PDQ. If you wish to go the Insurance route, which I did, a cautionary tale; I got the ball rolling 54 weeks ago & between Doc, their Administrator, Audiologist and Insurance Company, I am still waiting to be fitted, let alone find out what HA I'll be using, if they get their act together. Insurance finally approved Hearing Test after 11 Months. I did "approved" test & most importantly, co-pay Christmas Eve, after 4 appt. cancellations - not by me. Employer has switched to an even crappier "provider." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
