You made the top 20 posters to ferrarichat.com... as reported in the latest newsletter. p.s. have you washed your car yet?
Dan's slutin' it up for us! PS: dan's 550 isn't actually dirty. Seems that Ferrari's Nero paint turns grey as it approaches the speed of light.
Grazie, not sure it's an accomplishment as Vincent said. I've been on that list a few times, as has Art. As for Nero...FNA rejected my petition to create "Nero Dan" - so I succumbed and gave it a 10 minute wash. I *swear* I've been meanign to do a real clean...you know, like a 2 days detail... Tony, your name came up in conversation recently. A friend of mine saw a beautiful Dino of your color ("the blood of my enemies" or something like that), and I said there can be only one man.... --Dan
hehe, I like that one 'Nero Dan'... you might propose Bobafetti Sporco, or something like that. Thanks for the compliment... I get my Dino back today or tomorrow AM finally with some sound system, and new wheel and rubber. Driving down to Paso Robles this weekend.
Who did the work? I am in desperate need of improving the sound system on this car as well. How far is the drive to Paso Robles? Perhaps we'll have to make it a local drive? I know of some other LG inhabitants who would love to bring an Enzo or so! --Dan
it was my usual mechanic... but it was nothing really fancy. Paso Robles is almost 3 hours down south on the 101... I have some biz to do, and it looks like I can't go at all this weekend anyway. But, a Sun AM drive would be really nice... anybody up for a local Sun AM drive?
Dan- just don't put in some ugly aftermarket head unit like my 750's previous owner. I yanked the ugly green backlit old Aplinie deck out, and just finished retrofitting a 2002 in-dash BMW CD43 into a 1988 car (hinge covers still exposed on the sides.) Nest comes iPod control on the radio's buttons, then I tear into the drivers.
I need a green-display head unit. Beyond that, so long as it sounds half-decent I don't care. I was thinking of adding a small 8" sub behind the driver seat, replacing all of the speakers with Focal or MB Quart units, obviously changing the stock changer, and adding an amp in the trunk. iPod...i broke the last one. need a new one. Maybe that in car mp3 player jukebox thing is worth looking into... or XM.... --Dan
Focal's automotive line is very good, I use their HiFi line in some of my designs. I wouldn't consider much besides Focal these days if given the space in the car. PS: you'd be surprised what bass two good 6.25" woofers can make in a car with the right box size. Given the car's natural third order bass peak, you really don't have to do much (read: cars' small size gives a natural big bass boost.) The Phatbox has a ghetto name, but works quite well (displays info/controls on your head unit.) no mac version of the software, but works fine syncing to a PC. A decent head unit, if a little stuck in the 70s, is the McIntosh MX406. It's a pre-amp only, so it must be paired with exteral amplification. http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/mcprod/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=33&cat=Control+Centers+%26+CD+Changers&prodid=1077&product=MX406 It's lighting is also a tad blue compared to the Ferrari green. The Harmon TrafficPro is good as well, looks fairly stock. Not near the sound quality of the McIntosh however. http://www.hktrafficpro.com/images/tp_green.jpg
Vincent, that is an amazing pic!!! How do you manage to not slip on a pedal and mash your foot thru the driver cone?
Ben: that HK traffic pro seems very slick, except that you need to keep switching CDs. Do you know if it supports a CD changer? That way you leave the nav cd in the unit all the time, and then use a cd changer (or phatbox - couldn't remember the name, thanks) for music... That would be a VERY ideal situation, actually. Nav + music + decent sound. It's a car - we're not looking for something brilliant - just a good sounding system for the road with the windows down. But I do like the look of the McIntosh --Dan
Dan- If you like the McIntosh, the 550 deserves it <it's really nice, you can see the quality of it when you touch it. That's not dirty.>, Head unit goes for about $1400, but don't forget the amps. (Any will work, but naturally McIntosh work best WRT signaling & levels.) McIntosh also has a changer. I would go with Focal or McIntosh's own speakers. It looks as though the HK TrafficPro will work with a certin Becker changer, so you should just be able to leave the nav CD in. (the TrafficPro's nav isn't as easy as a big huge touchscreen/color-LCD, but it'll get you out of a jam if you need it!) The TrafficPro does have Turns out BMW actually expirimented with the TrafficPro as an OE radio, but decided not to go with it. As a result, it may (not sure!) control BMW OE i-Bus changers as well. Shoot me a PM/email if you like.
