Ouch! Any trailer that was carrying this 550 was probably carrying other high-end exotics. Now I know why those transporters always offer insurance.

Wonder if there was an expectant owner awaiting delivery of his new 550 on the other end?!

is it just me, or does that sheet metal look like it's been banged out a bit? i don't quite understand how that damage pattern could be inflicted unless someone was whacking it with a bat or lead pipe or something.

regardless, it's certainly a damn shame.

The other thing that seems a little strange is that if the car was damaged when the trailer rolled over, wouldn't there be damage on the roof? Seems fairly clean to me.

There is damage on the roof. It says in the actual discription and shows a pic in the link. They seem to be very up front about the story... doesn't sound too shady.

If you could pick it up for under $80K it would be a good deal.

If i saw that for sale without a description, i would have thought the owner left it in a bad part of town and some people beat it up with bats

why do you feel $80K is an especially magic number?

i just found two 1997s with just under 20K miles each listed with asking prices of 105 and 109. if you assume there's movement to be had to 100, that's not too far from 80 - and presumably those cars haven't been in major body-work accidents.

    i guess i feel $80K is a high number. i wonder what wholesale is for a no-stories, all-records 1997 with 25K miles is - i bet it's below six figures.

i'm also curious as to why the listing says (a) that it happened from a rolling carrier and (b) that they don't know what happened. kinda amusing.

No, I agree with you, it's just that with a rollover, I would have thought most of the damage would have happened on the roof section. Instead the whole looks like as if it's been beaten up.

I'm starting to shift my position from a spin-out to a case of vandalism. But then again, the nose is pretty much untouched. Hmmm, now I'm confused.

It might be a Euro car. The VIN doesn't make any sense.

"...and rear control arms bent from tiedowns"

I'm thinking the car was tied down and when the initial roll occured, the ties stretched to the point where the car's roof hit whatever above (now below being upside down).

Maybe I'm stretching it a bit, but it could be a possiblity...

That would stink if it was going to a new owner. Imagine that phone call.

I bet this is being sold on eBay in order to circumvent a low-ball payout from an insurance company. This way, the guy sells the car, makes a nickel and the car keeps a clean title...

Someone said something about insurance something or other... Anyway, he does it to make money. That would make sense, you look at his other sales and he has a lot of damaged cars. He is either a) a rich and very bad driver or b) some kind of insurance-fraud type guy.

If this was say on an enclosed trailer and it jack knifed and ended up on its side I could see this kind of damage happening to the side and roof of this 550..........
