    Hello all,

I’m a gated 95 456 owner considering swapping into something a little more modern as I like to use my cars near daily. As a result considering a 612 (want to have the back seat for kids).
Don’t know much about the typical issues on these like I do on the 456 so thought I’d reach out to the experts here on their opinion of the vehicle listed above. Specific questions are
    1) does this look like it has the hgts package (I don’t wanna call dealer and then get harassed w follow up messages yet)
    2) any glaring faults noticed by u guys?
    3) other than clutch and timing belts what specific service/maintenance items should I ask if have been done when i do make the call
    4) and lastly, I absolutely love driving my 456 (but I’m annoyed by the ridiculous issues w the windows and trunk latch and annoying lambda related cel’s that take away from its daily practicality. I’m not sure tho if I love it only because it’s gated and if I will still love driving an f1 612 (I guess worst case I could send it to EAG). I guess my question is anyone else go from a gated 456 to an f1 612 and I would love to hear their thoughts on driving enjoyment.
    Thx.

As an aside, there are currently two interesting 612 available for sale in the classifieds section. One even has the HGTC package.

Check history for, track rod ends, ball joints, bushes, g/box oil changes, f1 fluid changes, stickies, check both keys work, check climate, check dash top and parcel shelf leather. CEL not really an issue on stock cars. HGTC desirable. TFT screen and electric window switches delicate. Underneath car should be dry.

I went from a 456GT to a 612 OTO with F1. Overall, I would say that I preferred the gated manual transmission to the F1, although the F1A in the 612 OTO is pretty darn good, so it's not a huge deal.

However, the rest of the 612 is a big improvement over the 456GT-- and I really liked the 456. The handling, reliability, comfort-- all big wins for the 612. I've driven my 612 for multiple 600 mile + days in a row (it really seems like it was designed to do 1000kms/day, or 600 miles), and it is just spectacular.

A sign for me of good maintenance is the front grill- most have „teeth“ missing ie people not taking care of the details. This one looks ok.
But, its not original (sat nav) and it’s not an HGTC so I would pass.

To add to the above, the F1 gearbox is great (when not in Auto mode). Sure its not a manual, but it also provides a „mechanical“ experience more than dual clutch boxes.

I have researched the conversion for my 612. Happy to share my findings as well as my ownership experience anytime, check your private messages if you would like more in depth info.

As far as ownership experience the 612 is one of the BEST values on the market! I love gated Ferrari's but the F1 does not diminish the overall experience and is a lot of fun when driven properly and the sound (HGTC Exhaust) is absolutely amazing!!!

    Just my .02
Shoot me a message and happy to chat/share more.
    Cheers!

Wheels, exhausts, rear diffuser and an expert eye will probably see if these are steel versus CCM brakes. Plus it’s too old to be an HGTS or HGTC.

HGTS and HGTC were available when this one was built. Note it has the F1-S feature. She is a nice, basic 612 with good options like Daytona seats.

I believe I have the “original” ;-) 612 F1 to manual conversion. I’m helping quite a few people with conversions too, so happy to share what I’ve learned on it. Feel free to drop me a PM.

The short answer is I couldn’t be happier with the conversion. For me, it turned the weakest part of the car into the star of the show. And that’s saying a lot, as it’s a tremendous car all round.

Wil de Groot’s old personal converted 612 is up on BaT. I’ll be watching it for sure.

Mine is indeed a white 612… not sure if it’s the white 612 in question?

RNM on de Groot’s color change 612.

I was tempted but for the the “loud” red is a turn off.

Like Terry has noted on our 456/550/575 forum….winter is coming and I guess this being an enthusiast car and not an investor class held it back.

Would have been interested to see what it took to clear the market.

I guess for a small pile of cash someone could do a “Matt clear wrap”….to knock down the “loudness”

I think the red really killed it, and honestly the seller didn't do a great job representing the car either. I was expecting it to go for something closer to $100k.

I haven’t watched 612’s enough yet but I do agree.

My next car would be the 7th in the fleet and I do need something “super” but friendly enough to handle the 7&8 year olds school runs.

I guess another question or…. depending on how you look at it… A problem… Is if rates stay “higher for longer” over the winter… What is the bottom of the trough look like for F1 612’s?

historically my focus has been almost entirely on 308’s and Maranello’s.

I genuinely don’t know what the trough bottom was for 612’s…..or maybe we are approaching it now?

I don't think interest rates have much an effect on 10-20 year old Ferrari prices. I would also say the 612s are probably at the bottom of the curve, or even slightly on the way back up. They represent a superb grand tourer, and the end of an era for Ferrari since the FF and subsequent are so different-- and the market place recognizes that.

One thing that has really surprised me....as I've paid very close attention to the Maranello market....has been how many people are surprisingly NOT paying with cash.

I really liked that Bentley Bentayga that sold for $85k on BaT (it had a lien as well) and then the buyer flaked and then it sold and cleared the market on Cars and Bids very recently for $70k....if I was that seller I would have been depressed but he lifted the reserve so.....

My assumption would be that in the luxury market for under 6-figure cars, people would be buying with savings/cash but I've been surprised how many times we see liens on these cars.....so interest rates surely must have an effect for at least a piece of the "aspirational" buyers?

Wow I was wondering if these existed - I have an 06 HGTS F1 transmission and perfect car indeed but the gearbox should be a manual. Or did you do a convert?
