I have the chance to buy a 98 Diablo SV, its got 60,000 Kilometers, its all beat up ,.it dented all around, it needs a drivers side quarter panel,(I am not sure I can straighten it ) the Pas. side Quarter panel I can straighten, it needs work to the front bumper, the rear end is hit , but the deck lid is good, the rockers need work, but the doors open and close good, the roof is good and so is all the glass, and the cars runs , it also needs a rear hub + upper and lower control arms, but comes with them,I am waiting and hopeing he accepts my offer,I have in the past built from scratch 3 Porsche Wide bodys, one of them a full 935 body Kit ,So I think I can handle it , Now I am not concerned about resale , I just want to drive it and i do not think I will ever be able to afford a nice Diablo, Sometimes having a perfect beautiful car is a real pain in the neck because I am allways worried about it getting scratched, dented, abused in the parking lot, run into by some uncaring jerk, So for me , I will get to drive the car of my dreams, while I am fixing it up .So I am getting all my Funds ready before the Credit card Companys reduce my credit limits again ( I never ever paid late but it seems in this economy this is what is happening ) and hopefully he will accept my offer, its not far away from what the asking price was.I will keep my fellow Ferrarichat brothers and sisters up to date on this.Opinions welcomed.

As long as you understand resale will be killer. Also parts will be expensive. And god forbid there is any damage you don't see (engine/trans) - or this little project will be a big big project cost wise.

It all really depends on price v condition.

Any pics and what price are you looking at it for. Best you let us know in case A.) we know the car/accident history, B.) if you are overpaying for what you getting, best to know now rather than later.

    I second the motion.

Lots of really expensive variables here, make sure you are getting it cheap enough.

A few pictures would be helpful (not to mention another experienced pair of eyes) before you spend the money.

Is the vehicle description you posted something you saw for yourself? Particularly the "car runs" bit? If not then I would be very skeptical of the actual condition of things... Thats in addition to the advice already posted.

I have not seen the car in person, only pictures, the seller has 100% feedback, and yes I think it is very risky, the price is $ 39K and he will help me get a title in my name so i don`t have to go through all that inspection stuff here in NY . I did not hear it run, or drive it , it needs upper + lower control arms on the left rear.

How about all the rest of the parts in the "corner" including the diff. and the chassis "pickup points" where the control arms are mounted? I suspect that there is more damage than just the obvious.

    Feedback is 100% meaningless.

Is this the silver SV that has been floating the copart site for the past few months?

Sounds like a potentially fun project. However, I think you need to look more into things like the engine and other mechanics. I think with the money that you will put into this thing may get you a very clean older Diablo with no stories. Just my .02.

Either way I wish you all the best.

    You are a courageous man!

You will get lots of advice around here. Allow me to impart some....
    1. The words "Lamborghini" and "cheap" do not belong in the same sentence.
    2. Go see it in person.

Allow your head to rule your heart if you have to follow this dream and understand that Lamborghini parts are very expensive, and working on the cars so that they operate correctly takes experience & skill.

Good luck and we can only salute you for pursuing this...

$40K? If the motor is 100% it's worth that alone...but, given it's been used a lot and you have no idea its service records, you may end up paying $80K or more just to get it working (motor + chassis).

I think this car is probably more of a "parts car" than a "fixer upper".

You could be "upside down" with this one even if you got it for free. There is no way to judge how much it needs, just imagine "everything" and you'll be close. Unless you have a big bank account, lots of spare time and a big tolerance for risk, I'd forget it. This is the opposite of a "cheap" Lamborghini.

Well if you go for it, talk to you credit card companies and get them to raise your limit, not reduce it. 70G should give you some head room. After all , there is always the unexpected repair to loose sleep over.

    +1!

Save your money and buy a nice one... You'll end up with more money in this one in the end than you could have bought a nice one for.

If I'm coming to the wrong conclusion then I apologize, but you're scaring me talking about your credit card limits... If you don't have the CASH - and lots of it, then forget it, you can't afford it! The last thing anyone should be doing is running up their credit cards for a toy!!!

GEEEESSSS......Unless you're a glutton for punishment, just take 80K and buy a nice, well maintained early Diablo, 2WD. It is about the same weight as the SV, you know what you have into it instead of pouring tons of money into a hole where you don't know where the bottom is. I guarantee that you will spend more than $80 on this one to purchase and fix it up, and maybe a lot more! And it will take you many months or years to get it done! If you take the money a buy a good one, you will be driving it right away, know what you have, and can enjoy your life!

Yes, they are relatively cheap but in the early models I just can't stand the ugly gauge cluster which is too tall and did I say ... UGLY!!! Is it possible to put a 94+ dash in a pre 94 model?

YES... I can't remember which board it was on, but one of the members made that mod and posted a 'how to' with lots of pics. It didn't seem to be that big of a deal and is a huge improvement over the original.

Just judging by the way the car was hit and how far the impact went inwards there is more than likely frame damage, better off buying it for parting out.

Didnt wanna mention this. But this also concerned me. Spending tonnes of money that isnt yours on a project this big just doesnt make sense. Sorry but I am no trying to be negative. We're just watching out for a brother.

On another note, I wouldnt call this a parts car just yet. I'd personally make it into a trackcar for sure!

+1...you said yourself you wanted to 'drive' it and not look at it and fear beating it up...perfect, find a clean well maintained privately owned and cherished car at todays prices and you will save all kinds of money and headaches and spend more time driving!! = no brainer, stay away!!! :)

and if you do tackle it, I will cringe for you, but will enjoy loads of photos of the restoration!! :)
