OK. Done with the '00M5 and really done with the '03 Maserati coupe. I have found a '95 456 GT with 30k miles. The car is a driver. The passenger side door has been painted as will as the lower rocker on the same side. It has more that a few little chips on the front valance. The windows have not been "fixed" and the leather is just starting to bubble a bit. I did the PPI with a rep. shop and mechanically it is 100%. The price is $40k. I understand the ongoing service dollars needed and am ready for that but wanted a few thoughts for you all. Thanks, Keeter

Sounds like a decent deal in my opinion. Especially since everything checked out at the PPI. How bad are these chips you speak of? It's nice to know the car has been driven and decently taken care of. Windows is a pretty easy fix. Common problem as you know. Sounds like you've researched enough though.

456 is a great choice. One of my favorite models -sigh- if only the MPG were better :(

Post some pictures if you get it! :).

I thought the window problem was an expensive PITA to fix. I must have missed something along the way here.

I agree that if it is mechanically sound and no rust on it and the paint/repair on the door rocker was well done a $40k V12 driver Ferrari sounds like a pretty smokin' deal to me and I just LOVE the look of the 456!

Look forward to pics and an update!

    A $40K 456 sounds good to me! :):)

As long as its mechanically 100%, then a few dollars to touch it up cosmetically will be ok IMO. :):)

Just got my 1995 456 this summer--purchased from fellow fchatter. It also was my first FCAR. So far everything is great and brings a smile everytime I drive it. I added 19 inch wheels which really changes the profile of the car. PM me if you have any speciifc questions as I spent months researching 456's.

good luck and look froward to pictures--Tom

I guess that's all relative to your opinion on what's a PITA and what's expensive. I just meant that it's a common problem as most of us here know. Any reputable Ferrari mechanic etc should know what to do. I wouldn't say it's cheap to fix, but certainly is not the most expensive issue with this model. Didn't mean to say it was cheap, because well it is a Ferrari lol :)

Keeter Sounds similar to my car. PPI showed the car was mechanically solid, but like yours the window issue and stone chips were there. I decided I wanted something that I could use anytime and take anywhere. It was a no brainer really. Maintenance wise its not that bad. After I purchased my car I changed all the fluids, filters, cambelts and the cambelt bearings. It cost me about $2000 - $2500. Now that the big expense done. Next big one will be in 3 years. Brakes and tyres are fine for at lease 1 year (based on lowish miles). Besides the way I see it is that when I come to sell it I wont lose much money, especially compared to a non Ferrari. Easily offsets the maintenance costs.

I've driven the Maserati. It doesnt compare!

Providing the accident which led to repainting the passenger door and surrounds did not bend the car substantially or make bothersome door function, and the car does not have smoking valve issues (probably not at 30k miles since it seems to appear mostly between 12-25 k miles), then the price is midrange, but is not low, for actual sales occuring these days. I'm assuming the bubbling interior leather to which you refer is the inside curve on the door panels. Since leathers shrink with age and drying, inside curves can get the leather pulling away from the curve into a shorter straight path, as is nearly universal on these cars. Getting a driver means you will get the joy of driving. That's my style as well, others enjoy much more pristine cars for their own good reasons, too. Happy driving!

$40k for a 456 with a good PPI sounds like a great deal. I love my 456 and I am sure you will too. Good Luck

K- Sounds like a great deal. I think the 456s are the best deal going on Ferraris right now. My 575M has had the nose and tail repainted, so I would not worry about the paint being touched up. All the Ferrari 250 GTOs, 250 LMs, etc have been repainted, some multiple times, and the 250 GT SWB by Zagato has untold miles and paint jobs on it. Paintwork does not seem to hurt their value too much.

There are lots of threads here on the famous window gap. Finding the right person to do it is critical. Ferrari dealers will charge amounts up to 25% of your purchase price, so get the cost nailed down in advance. BTW, I've heard that sometimes the fix doesn't even work that well. Do a "456 Window" search.

Once you go V-12, you can never own anything else. It just does not measure up. (and I have owned a 360 CS--which was a monster)

I would LOVE to own a 456 (or 612) and a 360 Spyder! I think that would be an AWESOME combination of cars. I think it could be done well for under $150k these days too! Amazing deals on 456's right now. Relatively speaking they are an even better deal than the down right CHEAP (to buy anyway) 400's! WAY prettier than a 400 too in my eyes anyway.

Good luck with your future Ferrari purchase!

^Indeed it would be a great combination...and I agree there are some really great deals on 456's right now. Even on some 550's I'd say. Too bad I still can't get one right now :(

To the OP: What's the color combo on this 456 you're looking into? Just curious...

It is verde silverstone/tan leather with 27k miles. The leather 'bubbling' is actually the leather stretching around the instrument nacelle and passenger airbag. The 'chips' on the front bumper cover is normal road rash, nothing more than pebble size, but a dark color car shows paint imperfections easily.

Unfortunately, we could not agree on a price. I hope the OP is able to find what he wants. I will be putting my 456 back on FerrariAds, ebay, etc soon.

    Cheers fellow f-chatters.

Jason- Very nice 456. The green looks really good. Are those 550 wheels? They look very nice on the car.

Ferrari and practical don't belong anywhere in the same sentence, unless the word "not" is also present. :)

Give kara a break, guys. She is still a student and the costs of running a Ferrari are too much for her now. I get the feeling she will have one not too long after getting out of school. You can tell she loves the cars.

I do have to admit filling up the car with $1.90/gal gasoline has been a real pleasure in an EPA rated 10/17 mpg V12 compared to $4.50/gal.

If nice 456's are selling for $40,000 now, (and I've heard some selling for the mid $30's), then how low can the prices on these cars go? It doesn't make sense to me that a newer, better looking, faster car should be selling for the same prices as a 308. There has to be a bottom here someplace.

Also, as stupid as it sounds, I do think gas mileage is a consideration when buying a Ferrari. At least it was more of a consideration for me four months ago when gas was $4.00 a gallon. According to what I've read in the 308 threads, those cars can eek out a decent mileage figure (around 20MPG) compared to a 456 which might be half that.
